Irons desperate for return to winning ways

A week after their demoralising 6-0 defeat to Arsenal, the mighty Irons travel to the City Ground today, desperate to reclaim their winning ways against a similarly out-of-form Nottingham Forest.

After ending 2023 on a high, West Ham haven’t tasted victory in 2024. Back-to-back defeats, including the humbling drubbing against Arsenal, have dropped them to eighth in the table and put pressure on manager David Moyes. Contract talks have reportedly stalled, adding another layer of uncertainty.

Forest haven’t fared much better, facing a four-game winless run and sitting just two points above the relegation zone. Despite conceding in every league game this season, they’ll seek solace in their 1-0 victory over West Ham at the City Ground last season.

Recent encounters favour the Irons though, having won the last two meetings with Forest by a combined score of 7-2. However, Forest’s sole league win over the Hammers came at home, reminding them of their potential on familiar turf.
West Ham’s attack, starved for goals in recent weeks, will need to rediscover its spark against a leaky Forest defence. Michail Antonio’s potential return could be crucial.
Forest, meanwhile, will rely on their attacking duo of Anthony Elanga and Brennan Johnson to exploit potential gaps in the Hammers’ backline.
Hopefully the shame of last week will be rectified by a more than welcome three points.
