Irons don’t want bids for defender

reece-oxford-west-ham-oxford_3335636West Ham have received no offers for Reece Oxford from Germany and are determined to give the youngster every opportunity of proving himself at West Ham.

Despite media reports that both Borrusia Monchengladbach and FC Leipzig are keen to take the teenager in a permanent deal, ClaretandHugh has learned  that no firm offers have been made by either club.

There has been much agent activity in trying to make a deal happen but at this stage the Hammers are determined to give Oxford every chance of establishing himself in the Hammers first team squad.

He will take no part in the match at Wembley tomorrow evening having  reportedly sprained an ankle in training but it’s hoped he will have recovered for manager David Moyes to take a look at him against Shrewsbury in the Third round of the FA Cup.

The club are hoping they are not tempted with an offer which would need to be around £20 million for any interest to be registered.

They believe that they have an outstanding prospect in Declan Rice given the youngster’s ability to fill a variety of roles but their preference anyway is for Oxford to join him as a first team squad regular.

  1. “The club are hoping they are not tempted with an offer which would need to be around £20 million for any interest to be registered.” Which translates to, “He’s yours for 20 mill”. If he’s worth that much then why don’t we wanna keep him?We couldn’t get 20 mill for Ginge, Ogbonna and Reid combined.

  2. you realise this is just a story on a fan site and not necessarily actually the thoughts of the board right?

  3. At the present time, we have the good fortune to have one of the best U-23 group in the history of our club. Declan Rice, Reece Oxford, Reece Burke, Josh Cullen, Moses Makasi,
Marcus Browne, Grady Dianga, Nathan Holland, Domingos Quina, Tony Martinez, Nathan Trott, Sead Haksabanovic to name a few. These kids are seriously good; a couple of them may go on to greatness, so let it happen with West Ham. This is the future of a potentially good EPL club which could regularly compete for top 6 finishes and good runs in the cups.

  4. Max – Everton and Southampton have top youngsters because they’ve broken into the first team and proved they can cut it at the top level. And these players are the same age as those you mention above. With the exception of Rice (currently), we have nobody else who is anything more than potential.
Yes they are very good at U23 level, because other clubs kids are no longer playing at this level, they are in first team squads. And the level they are competing at became apparent when they played League 1 and 2 clubs in the cup recently. Luton reserves turned us over 4-0.
With this in mind, I’m struggling to follow the thought process that these will be the backbone of our club for years to come bud? If they were all kicking down Moyes door, then fair enough, but they’re not, and there is a reason for this. Burke, Cullen and Samuelson are all good League One players currently, and the rest remain unproven. Rice however, is a different story, because as Westlely said, he is head and shoulders above the rest.

    • I think Nathan Holland will make it into the first team and establish himself after he has made a full recovery, there is young Ben Johnson also who gets rave reviews, as for Burke. Cullen etc they look like they could step up but as you say they are not there yet but are improving. Rice looks like he has the potential to play at a higher level than most of our team, for me he should be playing a lot more often but he is young so perhaps the management knowing how good he is are being over cautious to save him from burnout.

      • Agree about Holland & Rice he has shown he is Versatile good in & off the ball & English defender w pace doesn’t cost £40m. Holland besides Rice has must natural talent in U23s got injured at worst time but be back end of this month.

As for Ox I have seen BMG’s 6’5 CB Vestergarrd has interest from a number of clubs including Spurs & Arsenal if he goes I will feel even worse for Ox bc he could of stayed & seen his loan out & was getting first team anyway but if lose Vestergarrd be first choice for CB. And top 6 club experience in a good league Moyes has to use him in first team if doesn’t seem him fitting rather him go back & finish loan but got injured at unfortunate time.

Moyes isn’t huge on youth right now. Keep going w Cheik who isn’t Fellaini but thinks he can be.

Really hope Ox & Rice get first team games this year.

But still need 2 midfielders & just read Wilshere said there as been no progress in new contract w Arsenal so we should make a bid now be great in our mid controlling tempo & on the break linking w Lanzini & Arnie
