Irons favourite calls for the “luxury players” at weekend

CandH Exclusive

West Ham will need to play what are being described as their “luxury players” when Newcastle come to town on Saturday afternoon.

Tony Cottee reckons the Geordies will get as many as possible behind the ball in a bid to get away with a draw and that means both Felipe Anderson and Manu Lanzini starting and producing the creativity required to get behind them.

TC said in a blog for us earlier today that he believes the Argentine midfielder could hit form over the next couple of games after his recent slump – a problem he claims is common with players who have returned from a long term injury.

Speaking in the second part of his CandH blog he said: “I’d also play Snoddy who has shown himself to be a fantastic pro. His return at the weekend was brilliant.

“This guy is an ultimate professional and his set pieces and corners can be absolutely crucial. I’d have played him at Goodison in a game that was crying out for some midfield bite and after his game against Sheffield United he has all but made himself impossible to be left out at the weekend.”

Of the numerous changes the manager made Tony said: “If he needs to change players that’s fine but he’s not been changing the formation and some have had something to say about that.

“I’d like to see Haller with a partner but every game requires a different approach so we have to leave things in the manager’s hands.”

  1. Yes, TC is right – every game deserves a different approach. MP please take note. A big team can have more than one formation.
