Irons get dream Carabao third round draw

West Ham got something of a dream draw in the third round of the Carabao Cup when their No 30 ball was paired up with Macclesfield for a London Stadium affair.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side will play hosts two the League Two outfit who currently sit in 23rd place of the bottom league.

The match against the Silkmen will take place during the week in the week commencing 24 September.

It means that the Irons met the lowest ranked team left in the competition after beating AFC Wimbledon 3-1 in Tuesday night’s game.

Macclesfield, have beaten Bradford City and Walsall to reach this stage of the competition and will see the clash with the Irons as a dream money draw.

However, whilst talking about “taking nothing for granted ” no doubt the Irons will be confidently expecting to  march onto the fourth round.

  1. Hopefully this will be another tie in which we will be able to hone our new possession based game.

The good thing about this season is that even if we put out a 2nd string team it is not full of kids, it’s experienced players who should be able to easily roll over a team of this status.

I would be disappointed to not win this tie by at least 4 goals.

  2. Would also be a good game to give Holland a run out in central midfield alongside Sanchez, so happy to have a great home draw COYI !!!

  3. The beauty is we dont have to play a team “full of kids”. Previous managers had to because they weren’t backed in the transfer market to the same extent as Pelle has been and we had a much thinner squad. On the other hand I see nothing wrong with playing one or two of the kids only, the ones that are still left having not been sent out on loan. Remember that Declan Rice is still one of the kids. I wouldn’t have a problem with Oxford or Holland playing against The Mac lads.

  4. Dream draw? Seriously? Even Macclesfield are capable of beating us in this competition. This is West Ham don’t forget!
