Irons hopes rise as defender claims he’s close to return

Declan Rice looks likely to play

James Collins reckons he is closing in on a first team return.

The veteran defender has played just four games this season and whilst there are hopes he could be back for Liverpool, the odds may be no better than 50-50.

However, the 34 year old can’t wait to get back into action and there has to be half a chance given his commitment to the cause.

If the need is desperate enough it’s more than reasonable to expect that Ginge will himself to be pressed into service.

Declan Rice looks likely to be involved at the back with Jose Fonte and Winston Reid still uncertain, and Collins’ presence would obviously be a huge help for the teenager should he be fit to play.

Hopes that he could be ready were raised by Ginge himself on Instagram when he posted: ‘Been a frustrating six  weeks with the injury, but very close to returning… can’t wait to get back out there.’

  1. Don’t risk him. Ogbonna, Rice and Zaba back three, with Cressie and Antonio left and right, Obiang holding mid, with Lanzini supporting Ayew and Hernandez up front. Carroll on for the last 20 minutes if needed, with Kouyate in the wings.

  2. If they all are still injured on Saturday, then it should depend on wether Creswell is fit. If he is not fit, then Masuaku would fit better into a wing-back role which means a 3 CB backline. That can only mean Chek Rice and Ogbonna as CBs. If Zab is suspended, then Byram gets another chance.
If Creswell is fit we could still use 3 CBs, or even a flat back four, including Byram Chek Rice and Creswell.

  3. Good to know Ginge is on the Mend even it don’t show up for Liverpool he will be back after break.
And we could use his reliability in back might not have the pace he once had by has the intelligence Size & passion.
What I don’t get his we give Reid a 5 year deal but won’t give Ginge a 1 year deal who might not play every game but this season & last he has been a saving presence in back. I would give him a year not high wages & even if not playing he is West Ham wants to Retire here & good influence.

Can’t see us switching formations we will have to score to bc they will so I’d keep the 3-5-2 and to me Ayew & Chic start AC off the Bench.

    Hart
    Rice Kouyate Ogbonna
    Byram Cress(Mas)
    Noble Obiang
    Lanzini
    Ayew Chicharito

    • Happy with that team but someone will have to man mark Salah. With all of the scousers injuries, he is the main threat. Tie him up and Firminio or Sturridge won’t get a sniff. Their defense is one of the worst in the league so there is a possibility to get a result from this game if the correct tactics are employed and if the individuals stop making stupid mistakes? There is always hope!!

  4. Sub’s: Adrian AC, Ginge (it fit), Ant, Fernandes Holland, Toni, Sameulsen (tho I doubt the last 3 will be sub’s) be Arnie & Sahko
But out squad is so thin & can’t see why Bryam wasn’t on last game…. Sahko already said he still wants to go in Jan so why not give Toni his Spot on Bench be cheaper for them w way Sahko’s pay is setup

  5. Ginge at 49 shows the rest what it means to pull the shirt on , 4 games this week and it looks like a 5th on Saturday , if that’s close to fitness what have the other lot been doing
😂😂😂 great servant shame about his pace and age , these British players are few and far between these days , super Pele 👍

  6. As you’ve said Laz, if he has played four games this week then the poor old devil must be well and truly knackered so come Saturday he needs a bloody rest!
Pity we can’t recall Oxford whilst we are so short at the back.
Good news is Chek will have to play there so he won’t be over-run in midfield. Bad news is that means Nobes will probably start!
    How about?
    Adrian
    Cressie
    Rice
    Chek
    Reid
    Byram
    Antonio
    Arnie
    Lanzini
    Ayew
    Chic

Subs – Martinez, Fernandes, Holland, Collins, Arfur, Hart and an empty seat to pi** of Carroll?
If we are gonna lose, let’s go down with an attacking line up!

    • Reid injured and Antonio and Arnie don’t deserve a starting place!!

      • Agree w Arnie I would play Holland or Arthur instead but I’d stick with 3-5-2 bc they ate gonna score we just have to take Advantage of their weak defense too & get in behind as well as play for corners.
I don’t think Ant as fully got fit have seen it in games he made a daft mistake but why did we have 3 attacking players down there anyway looking for cross. Why Bryan wasn’t on the bench to take that Position I dk.
But we have seen in multiple games Ant has been struggling to get up & down but since we got rid of all our True RWs and no back up he is rushed back just like what happened last season.

Our squad should never gotten this thin one of which is Henry who has been Injured for how long & Moses who never plays in PL team

  7. Cheers Doc – That’s my application for the job in the bin then!
Still, if Bilic can pick injured players, why can’t I?

    • Very true Jimbo.
And I would like to see Adrian start too but Hart will. He had his best game for us & prob in counting England & Torino too.
But I think if Hart is good he will **** off to another club. If he does poor then why keep him & have GK has highest paid player. I’d have Pope who is #5 in saves in all top 5 leagues. Talent is out there
Spend that money on a young GK to eventually be Adrian’s successor..
