Vague speculation that “something is going to happen in the Hammers transfer window soon and that the club has clear targets on who they want” are regular occurrences every summer.
And it comes as no surprise to be reading the same stuff again almost by rote even though it may not be necessarily true that signing are about to be made.
For the reality is that the Irons areĀ still hoping a new investor will be unveiled ahead of the new season which would allow them to buy bigger and better.
As has been repeated many times already this summer – with the window only open for a couple of weeks – Jesse Lingard is the only firm name in the frame.
Such as James Tarkowski, Adam Armstrong, Tammy Abraham and Patson Daka have been mentioned among many others.
But the reality is that could all change should the new investor appear and David Moyes has another three or four weeks to see what transpires on that front.
There were rumours a couple of months ago that the Irons may have more money to spend than expected on the back of a new shareholder appearing.
As things stand right now the positional targets – central defence, striker and Lingard remain the same – but that could change should new money become available.
It will be important that any new signings, bigger and better or not, can integrate within the squad and not become ‘too good’ for the rest of our players. Otherwise we may as well sack our staff and replace with the entire Manchester City set up. Pellegrini could have been a success if we had bought him and all of the Man City players 10 years ago. Being realistic, we just need to trust Wee Davey to take the whole team in the right direction. He’s done quite well on that front so far and there’s no reason why he won’t continue. Frustrating that we are unable to get tomorrow’s news – but let’s just wait until there’s something to say.
