Irons’ Loss is Sevilla’s Gain I Missed Opportunity

Despite a late effort to hijack the deal, it appears another target needs to be crossed off the Hammers hit list of possible attacking recruits. The frustrating thing in this instance is that the player in question has long been spoken about, and written about,  by us and various sites as a superb addition on a free transfer to give West Ham extra depth in the ‘tried and tested striker department’.

Kelechi Iheanacho has long been discussed in this forum with many enthusing about his pedigree and the value he’d bring to East London. Available as a free transfer, he would not have cost the earth and would have given West Ham a boost of Premier League experience: There really didn’t seem much of a down site to adding him – especially as things stand this summer with no first choice forwards through the door .

Spanish site Sport  reported yesterday that both West Ham United and Stuttgart attempted to hijack Sevilla FC’s deal with the player at the 11th hour. It goes without saying – as this is West Ham – that the attempt was unsuccessful.

Iheanacho is expected any day in Spain to complete a medical. It does seem a missed opportunity again and with the world and their wife knowing that the player’s contract with Leicester ran out last month, it could hardly have come as a surprise that he was available.

Why would West Ham wait until the eleventh hour to then try and hijack someone else’s deal when the player has been ‘available’ to speak with for months.

A case of too little, too late? Or is there still a Baldrick-style Steidten/Lopetegui cunning plan which we will only understand when the signatures start to appear on West Ham contracts.

I’m beginning to doubt it.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970.. Don't take my comments too seriously, imagine we are having a chat at half time over a pint at L S and "let's disagree without falling out".

Look ,we can’t sign foreigners so let’s stick with our academy players and bring them through

Phew. What a terrible player he’d have been for us.

When will we all accept that if a player valued us over what he could get elsewhere, he’d sign for us.

This guy is a flashy flop on the whole, hence never having made it at the top level.

Another ‘name’ that would’ve got Sullivan excited and was never on the cards anyway.

I really hope we can get the Füllkrug as he offers so much more than the ‘names’.

He is so what West Ham nee,d and as I said yesterday, Steidten has known him for many years

Fullrag is pensioner age and will only decline & and may not be quick enough for the PL.

  • Kip says:

Not good enough..but totally agree with the rest ..thats us all over …how the club thinks waiting til the very last minute to get deals done benefits us in anyway is ridiculous..apart from maybe getting lucky either one and saving a bit of money ..but I’ve said this so many times…WHY WAIT ..HOW DOES IT HELP.
The sooner we have our squad together and meeting each other and training together then the better ..introducing players 4 games in to the season is just plain stupidity..especially when all could be sorted 2/3 months leading to tye new season…..but it’s like banging ur head against a brick wall trying to get them to see this …moyes was the world’s worst at this …plus if you don’t get them? There’s no more time left to sort other targets….utterly pointless….

Wasn’t a target for a reason. Pleased we missed out on him as would’ve ended up with another player on big wages / can’t shift.

Can we just sign Wahi and let Duran stay at Villa please! Same price, scores goals and is same age.

Hoping we don’t let Forest sign Jota Silva RW as he seems a bargain.

    • Jeeps says:

Only person who appears not to think Jota Silva is a loss is Tim/JLo.
£8.5m would have bought somebody who can play Attack mid/centre/left and right flanks.
Deal not yet still time for a hijack
Or it will be Irons loss Forest gain.
Need to work on academy players but can’t rely on to many this season.
BARGAIN, BARGAIN, BARGAIN is crux of all whu negotiations.
Never get something for nothing unless its not worth having.
Scotsman/Yorkshire folk are noted for being tight and Moyes lived up to reputation.

  • Fletch says:

I’m beginning to wonder what the point of Tim Steidman is? Nothing has changed, another circus of a transfer window 🤡

  • Ian says:

No loss whatsoever. Nowhere near good enough if we want to progress. Never believed we were interested

  • Alan says:

    We Tried!

In all seriousness not arsed about ‘missing out’ on this one.

  • Irish Hammer ⚒️ says:

It seems that Tim splurged his load on a virginal Brazilian and as such we really need to shift some on big wages to keep within PSR. We will look, consider and bid but nothing will happen until we can find somewhere else for Zouma Ings and Aguerd to put their feet up. Has anyone got Ryan Reynolds phone number?

  • West Ham Voice says:

It’s only our loss if we were interested in the player in the first place and my understanding is there was never any interest
