Irons make the Byram position clear

|

Sam-ByramWest Ham remain seriously reluctant to do a deal for Sam Byram in January but are definitely in the frame for a summer move.

The Leeds United right back is out of contract at the end of the season and any fee would be subject to a tribunal hearing should the Irons agree terms.

The 22 year old is two years within the age limit for a Tribunal ruling and the Irons are keen to avoid negotiations at inflated prices with the Yorkshire outfit this month.

A tribunal is needed when a player under 24 years of age moves clubs having reached the end of his contract. Whatever valuation the tribunal comes up with is non-negotiable.

The player will have changed clubs at that point  and there is no right of appeal on either side once a figure has been reached.

Leeds have made it clear they want a deal done this month given that they will almost certainly see him leave for a reduced fee once it reaches the Tribunal.

However, no club is likely to move in given the circumstances this winter (unless they have cash to burn) and the Irons are set to keep their powder dry too.

Our top source told us: “We like the player but there are other options – about nine of them! They’ll want daft money, we want him in the summer with the fee set by Tribunal

Sorry not good enough, we have a better young rb in oxford at the club. How could anyone see this player as a premiership player. I think I need to become a scout, Mr Henry have you a job for me !! I said Jenks was a poor player and no one could see that. Just listen to me on this one too, I have good friends in leeds and they do not rate him. I have seem him play 20 times and if I was scouting him I would not be signing him.

Possibly get him on a pre contract? But then again alot can happen in the 2nd half of the season…injuries ,loss of form etc . From what ive heard of him he is not a consistent performer and often goes missing , he has mostly been used on the right of mf this season but hes an essex boy and a hammers fan iand he has the potential to get better …waiting till the summer would be our best bet
