Exclusive: Irons set to review Anfield video evidence

|

sentoffWest Ham are to review the video evidence of the players’ reaction to Mark Noble’s sending off at Liverpool before deciding whether to appeal against an FA misconduct charge.

The club was informed yesterday the game’s top brass were seeking to discipline the Hammers for ‘failing to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion’ in the wake of Noble’s dismissal at Anfield.

The club has until 6pm on 7 September to respond to the charge.

David Gold – speaking exclusively to ClaretandHugh – said: “There’s every chance we will appeal, but we will have to look at the video evidence as we did when deciding whether to appeal the red card.

“Obviously players cannot encircle and intimidate referees. But we will need to see what the reaction was before deciding what to do.

“Personally, I believe we should ensure the punishment always fits the crime and that there should be a sliding scale of fines.

“I do not know how the lads reacted until we see that video. We will look at it and then make up our minds.”

New rules bought in by the Premier League this season mean a club can be fined for failing to control their players if ‘two or more’ surround a referee to protest against a decision.

Whilst I agree the players, particularly Noble had a right to feel aggrieved, what is the point of remonstrating with the official? when has ANY decision been reversed following players all having a pop at the referee at the same time?

There is a clear case for video replay as too many incorrect decisions have had disastrous effect on results over the years. We were fortunate we were streets ahead of Liverpool, but shouting at the ref is not going to solve anything any time soon.

Baffled by this, the Referee makes a bad decision, so the players understandably react, (not in an intimidating way, I might add) and the club is paying the penalty for the Referee’s incompetence. Ridiculous on this occasion.
Does the FA not realise that passion abounds in all sport, players get jubilant and despondent far quicker in the bounds of competition, the flight or fight reflex is heightened.
They can’t celebrate with fans, or pull their shirts off, and now they can’t question a very poor decision. It’s about time the top brass caught up with the real world.

Incompetence is the FA and Premier leagues keywords. This goes from refereeing to work permit hearings, retrospective action and the offside rule. Since the premier league formed its been simply geared up to the benefit of the so called big boys and to the detriment of the so called also rans. Referee standards have gone down the hill and have been for 15 years yet the technology on offer isn’t used the reason being it slows the game down! What a load of bollocks it isn’t used as it will highlight the incompetence of the officials, the cheating of certain players and would make the premier league and FA come under scrutiny.

They’re not ‘encircling’ him are they? No they are forming a wall in front of him. Two completely different things. Not guilty mlud.

Yes – why charge WH when there was obvious over reaction from Ings and incredulity on the faces of the WH players? It is not justice seen to be working. It is just more officious, over reaction nonsense from the FA…

Does the Ref get a £20k fine for bringing the game into disrepute for being 5 yards away from a perfectly fine tackle and deciding it was a straight red card?

  • Di Canios Shorts says:

I thought with no hint of bias that our players were very restrained in the circumstances, having just seen our captain sent off for a perfectly good tackle Noble went quietly & the other guys didnt go OTT.I can just imagine how Terry & the chelski mob would have reacted & almostly certainly not been punished.

Were our players really intimidating and harrassing the referee ? To me it appeared they were just flabberghasted, but not threatening really.
I think what really intimitaded the ref was the reactions from the Anfield crowd who vented their frustrations at him, whenever he blew the whistle for a West Ham freekick they were booing and whistling, getting on the ref’s back.
One might argue it was the crowd bringing all this on by more or less forcing the ref to even things up at the earliest opportunity.
Noble’s perfectly fair and legal tackle was the earliest opportunity.

The perfect defence to any charge – ‘So, what about Ings?’

  • hammersfan01 says:

I think the look of incredulity on Winston Reid’s face is all the evidence that is needed. He is not a player given to unnecessary histrionics, so clearly he thought that the referee had made a grievous error and was forcefully expressing his disbelief. Which I think is a fair reaction.

I reckon the FA could get 20 grand for ings play acting but don’t hold you’re breath !!
    Its Liverpool .

  • johnboy says:

When or if you appeal !!
Ask if ings reaction is or was in line with the rules of the game,??
Is. Simulation to get a fellow pro sent off, bringing the game into disrepute , acting in a manner that doesn’t constitute within the rules of the game. ???
Or just ask if they thought ings cheated ????
