Irons may need a treble to reach fifth round

FA Cup.jpg-pwrt3West Ham will travel to either humble Exeter or Anfield for their fourth round FA Cup clash.

The Irons will need to beat Jurgen Klopp’s outfit for the third time this season if the Reds beat the Grecians after the thrilling 2-2 draw  at St James’ Park last week.

The possibility of doing the treble over the Reds will be a major incentive for Slaven Bilic’s side who have seen the merseysiders off twice this season.

We have not played Exeter in anything other than pre-season friendlies but the Irons under 21s beat their City counterparts 4-0 on December 2.

The team that day was:  Howes, Knoyle, Page, Dobson, Chambers, Oxford (Onariase 70), Diangana (Brown 83’), Cullen, Gordon, Browne (Makasi 76’) , Parfitt-Williams.

Subs: Brown, Pike.

The goals were scored by Gordon 1’, 11’, Parfitt-Williams 81’, Makasi 87’.

  1. We have played Exeter 14 times in the S1 League . Granted it was a long long time ago. But nonetheless we have played them and not just via pre season friendlies.
Gutted with the draw. We never seem to get a “easy” league 2 or non league team do we.

  2. I wouldn’t be to gutted ! Just been on there posts and they are not happy ? You can smell the fear and something else as well !!
I think a treble is on the way ! Let’s face it we always beat the best sides when we have reached other finals !
Plus. We need revende for the last 2 times we have played them in finals !
Especially Sammy Lee and Clive Thomas episode !
Have faith , its a going to be a great season !
    COYI!!!!!!!!!!!!S

  3. Exeter are my closest club but I’ve been a hammer since the 70s. There’s a massive West Ham following in Devon. When the U21s played down here last month the crowd numbered about 1500 and half were in claret & blue. Consequently we are all hoping that the Grecians can get a result at Anfield and bring the boys down to St James Park.. If Liverpool put out a similar team to last Friday then there’s every chance Exeter can win. Exeter have a great manager and play a West Ham passing style of football totally different to most league 2 sides so it would be a good game to watch with the result in our favour of course but giving the Grecians another much needed pay-day.

  4. Good luck Exeter, there is a chance that with all the cup competitions Liverpool are in they could put out a weakened side and come unstuck, I hope so would be nice to play someone other than a PL team, the all PL matches have little magic to them. If we do play Liverpool again there is a chance to disappoint Lawro again so every cloud has a silver lining !!!
