Irons media man quits to clean up refereeing image

West Ham’s head of communications has quit the club to take up a new role  with the PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Board) who look after professional referees.

An article in the Daily Mail declares:  “With VAR continuing to ruin football, perhaps it is no surprise that match officials’ body PGMOL has hired a new head of communications. Ben Campbell is taking on the role, heading over in the new year from West Ham.

Experience of working for an organisation where many of those involved are not necessarily popular with the public may have been a key skill identified by recruiters.”

Campbell joined the Hammers from MK Dons  in 2017 where he was head of media relations.

He rose quickly through the ranks from senior press officer to head of football communications in 2018 when Max Fitzgerald left for Wolves.

Last year he was promoted to  the West Ham Head Of Communications under executive director Tara Warren.

Warren is the club’s Chief Communications Officer (CCO) as well as the  Chief Marketing Officer (CMO).

Campbell will serve out his notice taking up his new role in the new year allowing the club to recruit a replacement.
