Irons on a nice little Hearn…er – grow up Baz

HearnThe foolishness or bitterness of Barry Hearn appears to know no bounds!

Earlier today the bloke called on the Mayor of London to tell the truth regarding the cost of the Olympic Stadium to the Hammers claiming we were getting it rent free.

Here’s what he had to say: As I understand it, West Ham are paying £15m but are selling Upton Park to developers and allowed to keep the money.deal

“Those same rumours are telling me that West Ham are also paying  £2m per year rent  plus a small share of catering income when the conversion of the Olympic Stadium is complete, hopefully in time for the 2016 season.

For a Premier League club that is a minimum rent, with the stadium authority paying for the stewarding, police costs, stadium and pitch maintenance.  A quick calculation reveals those costs should come to about £2m per year , so effectively West Ham are getting a freebie”

Now as a fellow businessman one would have imagined that Hearn would have been congratulating David Gold and David Sullivan on landing such a brilliant deal.

As we understand it his analysis is about spot on which  makes this the deal of the century and had Hearn hatched it we would never have heard the last of it.

He adds in his Sun column that he’s not having  a  pop at the Hammers which makes us wonder why he bothered to raise the issue at all.

Apparently he’s concerned about the cost to taxpayers – a multi million pound businessman concerned about the taxpayer? That’s novel!

And all this from a man who bought Orient for a £1 a year, sold the club but retained the ground as his own… I ask you!
