Irons plan poignant Rio moment this afternoon

Rio and wifeWest Ham are planning a poignant moment just before kick off when Rio Ferdinand’s sad loss will be at the centre of everybody’s attention.

ClaretandHugh was told just a few moments ago that a picture of himself and his wife Rebecca – who so sadly passed away after a battle with breast cancer – will be shown on the big screen seconds before kick off.

And the fans have been asked if they will sing Rio’s name on the fifth minute of the game against Burnley.

The Hammers protegee has  released a statement saying his “wonderful wife and soul mate” Rebecca Ellison had “passed away peacefully” at a London hospital.

Ms Ellison, 34, who married Ferdinand in 2009, had breast cancer.

She leaves behind three children, Lorenz, nine, Tate, six, and four-year-old Tia.

Rio said: “Rebecca, my wonderful wife, passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London.”
