Irons recruitment becomes massive issue

Moyes with head of recruitment Rob Newman

By Hughie Southon

Opinions maty remain split on the recruitment campaign we have seen under David Moyes and Rob Newman but with the window now open it becomes a matter for urgent discussion.

The pair have been offered a striker by the board which may or may not be a priority requirement although it could easily be based on inside knowledge that Mikey Antonio is unhappier than has been made clear publicly.

The summer of course saw nearly £200 million spent on new players, none of which have yet torn trees up which leaves more than a question mark over the the entire recruitment programme.

And here we are in January clearly in need perhaps of a new striker, right  and left back and central defender with nobody apparently in sight or available.

There surely needs to be a back up to whom I consider the best right back at the club – Coufal   – whilst Emerson can’t be the answer as our next Number One left back  -Daws will soon be on his way and Mikey’s position is of course in the balance.

Kherer has yet to prove himself anything more than mediocre and Downes isn’t getting sufficient chances ahead of Soucek.

The point in all of this is where Newman stands who is responsible for finding the right people and with nobody apparently lined up for January according to the manager two questions become paramount.

WHAT’S GOING ON and are we any better off than when the appointed managers and David Sullivan were operating the system?

Things need to be sorted fast or changed surely.

Get your finger out gents and get Players in if you are going to, or tell us you are not.

Jeez, who writes this rubbish? … Coufal our best RB? On what planet? … That is clearly Ashby, but for some reason Moyes froze him out and now he’ll be leaving.

The problem isn’t who’s been recruited, its the timing and usage. Waited too long to replace Cresswell so we could only get what was available (Emerson). We should have been in on July 1 for Raum, before anyone else had a chance.

Soucek seems almost undroppable … Downes and/or Coventry should have been playing as Rice’s partner all season.

Paqueta is a superb player who’s not being properly utilized. He should be playing alot closer to Scamacca, which is also the reason Scamacca hasn’t scored many goals – he’s too isolated – the same thing we did to Haller!!

We have also been unlucky with the injuries to Cornet & Aguerd which have been costly.

Moyes treatment of Benrahama has been nothing short of despicable! He has totally undermined his confidence. A confident Benrahama would be providing 20+ goal involvements a season. He’s been just about our best player, while Bowen has been mostly rubbish, yet who gets subbed all the time?

Then there’s the Captain. Who is going to follow a Captain who is clearly playing for a transfer to a CL club in the Summer? Instead of that, Rice should be trying to help transform WHU into one of the elite clubs – it’s us who rescued him from the scrapheap after all – he should be reminded of that every day!!

Toon are now going to make it the “big 7” despite our head-start on them.

    • So exactly where is the rubbish given you appear to agree with most of it. Aashby has had no run so how do we knlkow he is rthe best and his agent represents Eddie Howe so that’s that. We got what was available cos we were late = who’s fault is that. The rest falls alongside what’s written. Try nlot to ctitise before you have thought through what you have written

We don’t ever seem to be utilising a plan, confident in our targets, acting early and decisively. It just feels like we haven’t a clue.
