West Ham United are set to reignite their pursuit of Metz striker Georges Mikautadze following Georgia’s elimination from Euro 2024.
The 23-year-old impressed at the Euros, scoring in every group stage match before Georgia’s defeat to Spain in the round of 16. This strong showing has reignited West Ham’s interest in the striker, who fits their profile of a young, in-form forward.
West Ham reportedly enquired about Mikautadze earlier, but those reports of a tabled offer were denied. While Mikautadze prefers to stay in France for now, the Irons are expected to make a more direct approach after his return from the Euros.
West Ham are not alone in their pursuit, with Callum Wilson and Jorgen Strand Larsen also on their striker shortlist. However, Mikautadze’s age and recent goalscoring form make him an attractive option.
A potential concern for West Ham is Mikautadze’s lack of experience against top opposition. His performance against Spain wasn’t his best, raising questions about his ability to adapt to the Premier League.
He was on loan to Metz from Ajax but now they’ve made the deal permanent until 2028 because the loan came with an option to buy which they’ve now exercised for 13 million euros.
Callum Wilson, PLEASE NOOOO
