Irons statement on “incorrect” LS capacity story

london-stadium-fansWest Ham have issues an official website statement following what the club claims is an incorrect and misleading article in a national newspaper today.

The statement reads: “Following an incorrect and misleading article in a national newspaper today claiming that West Ham United are struggling to fill London Stadium, the Club would like to clarify the position for the benefit of our supporters.

London Stadium currently holds 66,000 seats. The capacity at present is restricted to 57,000 by licensing regulations, leaving 9,000 seats that must remain empty for every home match.

“In addition to this, there are always a number of Season Ticket Holders who are unable to attend specific matches for various reasons – an issue that every Premier League club is familiar with.

While this may give the impression that matches are not sold out, the fact is that all 57,000 seats are sold for every match. The Club have 52,000 supporters on the Season Ticket Waiting List – hence its wish to increase the capacity to 60,000 this season and 66,000 next season.

West Ham United encourage all Season Ticket Holders who are unable to attend to offer their tickets for resale on our Ticket Exchange facility, to enable their fellow supporters who wish to purchase tickets for matches to be able to do so.

Furthermore, in line with the Club’s contractual and social commitment to our local community, a small number of tickets – 50 for most Premier League games, and more for friendlies and cup matches earlier in the season– are made available for free to Newham Council and its residents.

West Ham are extremely proud to represent the London borough of Newham, nationally and globally, and are fully committed to doing everything we can to support our local community.”

  1. If I received a reasonable rate on ticket exchange, even 60% of cost maybe, I would willingly use it. But for the appalling return now it’s an insult. I’d rather put that ticket in the trash!

  2. Ticket exchange is currently just another West Ham rip-off

    • Much as it appears a rip off, if they paid you more per game I imagine over the course of a season if you rented your ST out you could turn a profit without ever going to a match ARH ? I don’t know you would have to do the math and work out what they pay you per game if that works out a 19th share of a ticket or not.

It my guess is correct it is harsh on the real supporters but without it, ticket touts could just buy all the ST’s up and put them permanently on ticket exchange to turn a profit without doing hardly any work.

      • You don’t even have to do any maths, providing the resell price is lower than cost price and cost price of a season ticket is always lower than gate price on the day anyway, touts can always turn an easy profit. That’s no excuse for West Ham ripping off fans which effectively is aiding and abetting touts at the same time. The only way to stop touts is for the police to round up that scum at every game and courts to fine them a minimum of £1000 per offence. Claiming that’s a reason to offer fans less than a third of face is value is laughable, especially when the club makes little effort to address that problem. If theyre happy to see so many seats empty because of their greed so be it!

  3. Well its a cheerful monday in Westhamland.I have just had the pleasure of another suicide squad article on Dales site.Dripping feeding negativity to cater for the regulars & slowly brainwash other less frequent users to come round to their way of thinking.

    • I gave up after…
my beloved West Ham (or what is still left of it anyway)
Its a shame i used to hold that chaps articles in really high regard until he started giving his mates what he knows they want to read. All he basically does now is his give his mates their ammunition for the day.
I used to find his articles thought provoking & insightful…now just giving what he knows will please his buddies most the time. Its a pity it really is.
He WAS one of the best blog writers about.

      • No lads i aint having it.H is the main man.He has always made me smile with his articles.
He reminds me of the wild mustang who has been captured & broken in until he is a shadow of his former self.Ground into submission by the moaning old farts 😁😁😁

        • Quick reply from me lads: I had to laugh at the wild mustang comparison, even in my younger days I never resembled a mustang, I was always more of a stocky old horse…:-)
Joking aside: Do you seriously believe that secretly I love everything which is happening at our club these days, that my walls are plastered with pics of our board and that I actually consider our new stadium to be the best football ground the world has ever seen, but that I choose to write the complete opposite in my column just to please a few mates and friends?

Absolutely not. My views are no more valid or important than those of any other fan, including yours of course. But my views are my views, it’s what I feel and think and believe me: I don’t need to write certain things to keep my mates onside. They are my mates because we enjoy each other’s company, not because we always agree on everything, be that West Ham or life in general.

As you all seem to read WHTID quite fervently on a regular basis, you may have noticed that quite a lot of people disagree with my stuff on a regular basis. One thing I’ll admit though: Sometimes I fall for some of the online rumours and subsequently make some assumptions which may lead me to be a bit too dramatic sometimes. All of which comes from my passion for West Ham.

Again: My views are based on how I see things, on my (rare) visits I use to watch West Ham play and I believe I am old enough to form my own opinions.

So the mustang never was a mustang in the first place, but this German horse surely hasn’t been captured and broken in or ground into submission by moaning old farts.
Sometimes events at West Ham give reason to moan – and if I moan I certainly don’t do it to curry favour with anyone.

          Have a good week all!

Which is how it should be.

          • Lol only joiking with you H.
I have always enjoyed our articles & had time for you.You seem like a top guy (& no not because you wanted Hippo Head out, which is apparently the reason i have seen quoted for why you got no grief here.Maybe you are just a likeable bloke unlike some).Anyway we are tame on here these days😁😁
Next time i will refer to you as a Shire horse then 😁

  4. aren’t we all happy campers again today, ST holders who for whatever reason can’t attend certain games are moaning that the club are ‘Ripping’ them off with a 10% admin charge. A better idea is to throw that ticket in the bin then because that will get something back for it won’t it….??
The club are having a review on signing Hogan because of a new/recurrence of an knee injury.. sensible or is it because the club were lying in the 1st place about signing him?
Or we could go down another route & moan about every single thing about the club.

    • Im happy mate,i enjoy reading the same fans who came here popping at us for continually slagging Hippo Head now doing the exact same thing about everyone & everything.Repeating the same boring crud daily in their wonderful 200 word knowledge bombs.
Its different when the boot is on the other foot though i guess. They must play by different rules lol 😁😁
