Irons target set for Liverpool

Darwin Nunez is poised to join Liverpool.

The Hammers made a bid for the Benfica striker in the January transfer window but he is now set to move to Anfield in a huge deal.

Per The Athletic, Liverpool have agreed to pay £64.1m up front with £21.4m in add-ons, bringing the total to £85.5m.

The 22-year-old is set to sign a six-year deal with the Reds and will be a replacement for Sadio Mane, who appears set to join Bayern Munich in this transfer window.

West Ham’s attempt to sign Nunez was deemed ambitious but was ultimately doomed to failure, as the youngster set his sights on a move to a Champions League club.

He was in remarkable form last season and scored 34 goals for the Portuguese club.

A full Uruguay international with 17 caps to his name, and two goals, Nunez is now poised to make his move to the Premier League.

West Ham may feel like this is the one that got away.

  1. Nunez… ‘The one that got away’????
Let’s get real, West Ham made a derisory offer for a player who seemed set for the top of the tree, needless to say, a few months later he moves for about twice as much as West Ham were offering…. where have I heard this before?

  2. Was never a realistic target.

  3. Been around long enough…….. Seen this trick a thousand times.
West Ham, is a great name to throw around, similar to throwing bait into a pond to catch bigger fish.
Did we have a chance of signing him, over Liverpool?
Our funds, trajectory and development are slightly different to teams like Liverpool, Newcastle and Citeh.
    More twisty knicker stuff.

  4. Some of us are really deluded. Compare the 2 clubs from an outsiders point of view and he was never going to join us in preference to them. They are what we dream of being. He would have ended up there at some time or other, he’s merely cut out the middle man.

  5. We spotted him so perhaps Liverpool owe us scouting fees?

  6. I honestly think Nunez is a panic buy from Liverpool after seeing City are buying Haaland. Looks like City and Liverpool are going to be running away with it again.

  7. Agree with all here, he was never joining us, in January or now typical PR with leaked stories to get headlines, wondering if we have Boris Johnson in charge with all the distractions that we throw out every transfer window to distract from the fact we never get our first choice signings, if Bissouma is available at £25m why the hell wouldn’t we sign him he is a top 6 player all day long. If Cornet has a £13m buyout clause likewise, the Aguerd deal he should be signed up by now. Speaking personally have zero faith in our board in the transfer windows due to every other window bar Pellegrini’s first, what we need is a statement signing that will grab the attention of players agents that says we are committed to challenging the top four teams, until we do that we will struggle to attract the best talent.
