Irons top seed incentive

If West Ham win the Europa League this season, they will automatically qualify for the Champions League and will, subsequently, be drawn as one of the top teams in the competition.

The winners of the competition go into the premier club competition in Europe, and ESPN have now confirmed that the Hammers would be drawn as a top seed in the Champions League.

That would be an absolutely immense boon for the Irons, whose chances of success in the competition would increase dramatically.

The top seeds are usually reserved for the teams who win their domestic leagues, so it would likely be the likes of Manchester City or Liverpool, Real Madrid, PSG, and Bayern Munich joining the Irons in that pot.

It also means that the Hammers wouldn’t be able to play those European giants in the group stages.

Take, for example, Manchester City’s group this season; they played PSG, who were Ligue 1 runners-up last season, as well as RB Leipzig and Club Brugge.
