West Ham have been handed a transfer blow after Liverpool confirmed Nat Phillips’ injury blow.
The central defender has been linked with a potential move to the London Stadium in recent weeks, with the London Evening Standard claiming that David Moyes is interested in a swoop to sign the Reds ace.
Phillips has somewhat struggled for minutes thus far this season, making just three senior appearances, although he did play in the Champions League dead rubber against AC Milan earlier this week.
The Standard reports that he has become a target after the injuries sustained by both Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna.
However, Liverpool have now confirmed that Phillips fractured his cheekbone against Milan and now faces a few weeks on the sidelines, potentially scotching any chance of a move to the London Stadium.
They released a statement revealing that he is unlikely to be back in action before the New Year, which reads: “Liverpool are set to be without the services of Nathaniel Phillips for a number of weeks after the defender sustained a fracture to his cheekbone.
“The centre-back picked up the issue during Tuesday’s 2-1 victory over AC Milan at San Siro in a challenge.
“Further diagnosis by the club’s medical team has confirmed a fracture, though Phillips does not require surgery.
“He is likely to return to action in the New Year, though will be able to continue with a bespoke training plan until then.”
