Irons v Newcastle – Live reporting

|

Ok, we know you are struggling to get there so we’ll keep this going as long as you require.

Here is the West Ham team: Randolph Reid, Tomkins, Ogbonna, Cresswell,Noble, Kouyate, Lanzini, Moses, Sakho Payet.

The Newcastle squad, hit by the massive problems around the east end tonight, completed the last part of their joueney on foot and here’s the line-up. Krul, Mmemba, Janmat, Collocini, Haidara, Anita. Colback, Sissoko, Wijnaldum. Thauvin, Cisse.

2. Scrappy start – plenty of lost possession and Payet mis-directed through ball passes harmlessly over the goal line

7. Newcastle win corner on the right but poor flag kick and easily cleared.

IRONS GOAL 9 MINS: Neat move involving Noble – ball across to Payet and glorious shot past Krul from outside area

Irons continue to push forward but visitors defending well and broke to see three shots well blocked before a couple of forwards strayed offside

18. Great skill down the right by Moses turning defender inside out, crosses to Payet who fires wide

19. Great close range save by Randolph as Janmat bursts into the last third and fires in fierce effort

27/ Very sloppy cross field ball from Noble is pounced on but danger cleared by Ogbonna

Newcastle have been seeing a little too much of the ball but the Hammers have hardly been stretched at the back and look dangerous through Payet and Sakho in particular

42: Ogbonna down with what looks like hamstring. He’s off and on comes Jenkinson with Tomkins moving to central defence.

43/ Moses breaks at speed feeds great ball in behind Newcastle defence but Poyet hammers wide

45 Payet lifts a ball back to Noble but miscue and over the top

HALF TIME: Irons 1 Newcastle 0

Summary: One moment of pure quality has but the Irons on top but for much of the half the lads seemed content to give Newcastle plenty of possession and counter attack them. Janmat had Newcastle’s best chance but Randolph saved well. We need to see the Irons really getting at the visitors in the second period if they are going to shed this ‘away game’ tag they are getting.

Second half kicks off

IRONS GOAL 48: Under-hit Newcastle free kick – and Moses at great pace breaks forward, fires in his shot against underside of crossbar and Payet follows up to rattle home COYI 2-0

55: Hopeful ball in from wide and Newcastle’s Cisse on the turn shoots well wide

59: Lanzini OFF Obiang ON

65: Laboured Newcastle build up but  Janmaat cracks in a shot at end of it  which is well saved by Randolph

68. Noble brough down on edge of box and Cresswell fires into side netting

It’s all become a bit frenetic with the visitors looking very edgy on their way forward and the irons defence having little trouble. Tomkins looking very composed back at central defence

80: Urgent Newcastle forge a chance and De Jong’s deflected shot is turned over by Randolph

85: ANDY CARROLL GETTING STRIPPED OFF

87: Brilliant Victor Moses off Andy Carroll ON

FINAL WHISTLE: Irons 2 Newcastle 0

I was here long before you came Dean. Never mind, I hope I’m wrong about sakho. But work rate won’t be enough in this team.

Just did a visit to BBC site. I guess it is something that will never change but you can tell the two commentating are trying to will a comeback for Newcastle . Still, if their willpower is as bad as their grammar, we have little to worry about

    • WestGoaHam says:

Watching it over here and thought exactly the same .The commentators were willing a Newcastle comeback. Unlucky boys, haha

I won’t stop you. I’m loving the game and everything, just wanted to bring my perspective instead of stating the obvious, that the game is a thrill to watch.

  • eriko says:

I think Sakho is on his way out. Great player last year, but I have a feeling we won’t make the cut in under slav.

  • canchaz says:

Payet obviously our signing of the summer and producing the goals Slaven said he expected from the midfield and Moses looks as if he could be our second best deal of the summer.
Thank god Slav. Didn’t succumb to the cries of “buy a striker at any price”

Need another goal or two, can see newcastle finding the net.
