Irons “very hopeful” on Reid

winston-reid-west-ham-united_3009997Fresh hope is surging through the club this morning that Winston Reid is ready to sign a new Hammers deal.

Speculation started circulating on Twitter last night and the national press is saying much the same inb its early editions.

And ClaretandHugh has established within the last few minutes that days of intensive talks between Reid, his agent and David Sullivan have been held over the past several days.

The central defender has been reportedly courted by Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool but after spending hours talking to the Irons is closer to signing than at any time this winter.

The Mail reports that he is close to committing to a new deal and the Hammers are now very upbeat about the likely outcome.

We were told: “We are very hopeful. Good negotiations have been held with him and his agent but we will know more within the 72 hours.”

  1. So Arsenal, Spuds and Liverpool have all been courting him but suddenly he wants to stay at the Boleyn? Yeah, of course.
More likely either no one is interested to pay his assessment of his value or he has something lined up anyway.

  2. Come on Whinnie you know it makes sense. He wont leave his old muckers Tommo n Nobes will he ? C.O.Y.I.

  3. Just an idle thought, could it be that he knows Sam is going and so decides to stay.
Maybe him and Sam didn’t get along or he has heared who is coming to take Sams’ place
and really fancies playing for whoever is coming.
Much going on behind the scenes, all will be revealed sonn I hope.

    • It’s very idle thought. If that was the case, why would he sign now & then risk the possibility that this brilliant new manager isn’t coming after all? He’d be better off waiting until the Summer & assess all his options.

More likely that his agent has been unable to line anything up with a “big” club & we have improved our offer.

  4. Have the 2 Daves worked out its better ti give him his price then pay out the same wages plus a big transfer cost aswell ?
Has Reid relised he is not going to walk into any of the 4 teams that want him team ?
Or he has had guilt ridden night and decided that we gave him his big chance and here he could become a legend and for me the new Captain we need driving the team on from the back.

    • bubs, what makes you think he would make a decent captain? He seems too laid back, is an averagely decent player but shows no sign of any motivational qualities.

  5. Because most good captains play at the back where they can see what’s happening in front also he is normally the spare player at the back which gives him time to address the rest of the team,
Every one has a voice it’s not always the one with the biggest mouth that makes the best leader, just look at the pundits on offer how many of them were good leaders and how many weren’t and even now talk a load of rubbish,
Nolan,s captain because he had respect for the other players now that’s not there,
What makes Noble a good captain, just because you have been at the club all your career ?
You could not have a more laid back carm player than Bobby Moore, but what a leader.
Look at the best captains and there position on the pitch if not the goalkeeper is always a good option but then you need a Spanish interpreter,Nolans going we need a leader who would you pick ?
