Irons’ wonderful Liverpool win – The ratings

Fabianski – Absolutely nothing he could do about the free-kick. Good save from Mane at the start of the second half and was stranded by Origi’s strike too. 6

Johnson – Was tested in the second half by Mane’s relentless running but gave as good as he got. So impressive for his age. 7

Zouma – Pushed forward regularly and was a solid and dependable presence in the backline. Stopped a number of Liverpool attacks before they got going. Scored a superb header. 7

Ogbonna – Jumped with Alisson to put him off claiming Fornals’ corner to give the Hammers the lead. Went down clutching knee on 14 minutes and was treated but continued. Then got a knock to the head from Jota and went down the tunnel. Dawson replaced him. Eventful 20 minutes! 6

Cresswell – Lucky not to be punished for a reckless tackle on Henderson in the first 10. Most of Liverpool’s attacks in first half came down his side but he grew into the game. 6

Rice – Conceded the free-kick for Alexander-Arnold’s goal when he really didn’t need to, as he steamed into Salah. Regained his composure to tick the Hammers over. 6

Soucek – Booked. Was a physical presence in midfield, even if he didn’t really influence things in the opposition half. 6

Bowen – Worked so hard up and down the pitch and laid on the assist for Fornals’ goal before whipping in the corner for Zouma. Subbed off for Coufal as Moyes tried to shut the game down. 8

Benrahma – Jinked his way through the game, playing some telling passes when the ball came to him. A joy to watch in this form. 7

Fornals –  Whipped in that brilliant corner for the first goal and another in the second, when Dawson hit the crossbar. Thoroughly deserved his goal. 9

Antonio – A real handful, always looking to run beyond Van Dijk, although he struggled to actually impact the game. 6

Dawson – On for Ogbonna. Made a great first-half block on Mane in the box and hit the bar with a header in the second. Won the ball back before Fornals’ goal but could have been closer to Origi when he scored. 6

Coufal – On for Bowen late on. N/A

Masuaku – On for Benrahma late on. N/A

  1. You’re a pretty harsh marker. I agree that Fornals was MOTM, but Cresswell was terrific, that strong challenge early on notwithstanding. Antonio was unspectacular but made a nuisance of himself throughout and played a part in all 3 goals

  2. Ludicrously low marking! What game were you watching? Heroes all! Agree that Fornals was probably pick of the bunch though, how about a 10 for him! Loved his comment after the game too when asked about being credited for the first goal he say it doesn’t matter, it is a West Ham goal, sums this wonderful team up!

  3. bit harsh.Thought the entire team defended well as a unit, covering each other, even Bene got back to cover Cresswell
    who had a good game.
Fornals top marks, Johnson, Zouma, Oggie, Dawson, Bowen and Soucek all 8’s and Rice Antonio, Fabs, all 7’s…
3 goals against the 3rd best Defence and 2 goals against the best attack on Premiership
    Top 3 after 11 games….
