Irons youngsters shine

West Ham’s youngsters have shined while on international duty.

A number of kids have been called up to play for England at U18, U20 and U21 level and all three were successful.

Striker Divin Mubama scored the winner as the U18s beat Sweden 3-2 in a thriller on Friday.

Sonny Perkins also played for the U18s in the game, coming off the bench to replace Mubama in the 80th minute.

Ben Johnson also played for the U21s against Andorra as Lee Carsley’s side won 4-1.

The game was notable for the fact that Johnson played as a centre-back, despite playing at right-back throughout his time with the Irons.

The goals came from Folarin Balogun, Jacob Ramsey, Morgan Gibbs-White and Anthony Gordon, of Arsenal, Aston Villa, Wolves, and Everton.

Elsewhere Aji Alese started for the U20s, although they were beaten 2-0 by Poland.

At senior level, Alphonse Areola was on the bench for France as they beat Ivory Coast 2-1, while Arthur Masuaku was left out of DR Congo’s 1-1 draw with Morocco.

One comment on “Irons youngsters shine

  1. I think you’ll find Johnson was an unused substitute Dave, at least according to the stats on the match report. Perhaps he’ll get some time in the next match.
