West Ham secured a 5-0 victory in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Dagenham & Redbridge, with John Egan making an appearance, as reported by ExWHUEmployee via The West Ham Way.

The club has been keeping a close eye on the former Sheffield United defender, trialling him in this match to assess whether to offer a short-term contract for the upcoming season.

West Ham held a closed-door friendly today against Dagenham and Redbridge,” ExWHUEmployee shared on The West Ham Way Patreon.

“The squad included a mix of young talent and senior players working on their fitness. John Egan, one of the participants, is expected to join as the team’s fourth-choice centre-back on a free transfer from Sheffield United.”

West Ham’s 5-0 win featured a hat-trick from Danny Ings, with Andy Irving netting the other two goals. The match, played over two 30-minute halves, saw Egan feature in one half, and while his performance was solid, the club is yet to decide on his future.

The Daggers must be sick of the sight of Irving having been on the receiving end of his winner when the two clubs me in July.

Egan became a free agent after Sheffield United opted not to renew his contract, following a long injury spell that side-lined him for much of last season, during which the Blades were relegated from the Premier League.

The Ings treble will be a huge shot in the arm for a player who decided against moving from West Ham during the transfer window. The former Liverpool striker maintained that he was happy in East London and wished to stay and prove his worth.
