West Ham United are still believed to be in with a chance of signing Nice central defender Jean-Clair Todibo. The Hammers agreed to a deal with the French club yesterday which would have seen the centre back sign for West Ham on an initial loan deal with the view to a £27 million permanent transfer.

Unfortunately, whilst the Ligue 1 club was receptive to the transfer itself, the player rejected the chance to join West Ham, instead hoping for a move to Juventus and the opportunity to play Champions League football.

However, the Italian giants are struggling to come up with the financial package that matches the one offered by West Ham, and it is understood that the Serie A side need to sell before they can buy.

Juve have already attempted to offload both Matías Soulé and Brazilian midfielder Arthur to West Ham in this transfer window in an effort to raise funds to bolster their own spending spree.

Therefore, it may well transpire that Todibo is left with little option but to sign for West Ham, although how long the Hammers are prepared to wait remains to be seen.

In the meantime, Tim Steidten is believed to be on the lookout for alternative partners for £40m man Max Kilman.
