Former Sheffield United defender John Egan is making his non-competitive West Ham debut today after arriving at the Hammers’ Rush Green training ground.

Julen Lopetegui’s side is playing a behind-closed-doors training game against Dagenham and Redbridge to maintain the fitness levels of players who have not departed for international duty.

West Ham reportedly views this fixture as a trial for free agent Egan, who is eligible to sign for any club outside of the transfer window.

This potential transfer follows German international defender Mats Hummels’ decision to reject a move to East London in favour of signing for AS Roma.

The Hammers are also believed to retain an interest in former Liverpool centre-back Joel Matip, though concerns persist regarding his fitness after a cruciate knee ligament injury during his time at Anfield.

Egan is also coming off the back of an injury which kept him out of the Blades team for the majority last season.

This site is hilarious. ‘West Ham have doubts over Matip after a bad injury’….but Egan who was out for 11 months with a torn Achilles is okay.

Anyone beginning to think we should have just offered Ohbonna another year?
    3 centre backs
1 left back (fit for purpose)
A £25 million Brazilian kid apparently nowhere near first team levels
Still no centre forward capable of leading the line across a whole season
    Great window though….

New low for this site. You introduce a new potential signing with a picture of them going off injured?
