Football transfer insider Fabrizio Romano took to X (formerly Twitter) this morning to provide an update on West Ham defender Jean-Clair Todibo.
Why the Italian gossip guru felt the need to explain the grey area of Todibo’s loan/obligation-to-buy deal from Nice on a Sunday morning is anyone’s guess, but at least we now have clarity.
Romano posted: “The obligation to buy clause (€40m) in Jean-Clair Todibo’s deal to West Ham from OGC Nice is very easy to reach, almost guaranteed. It will be triggered soon, as the French centre-back can already be considered 100% a West Ham player, as always mentioned.”
Romano is likely referring to the number of games Todibo must play to trigger the obligation to buy from Nice. It was widely reported at the time of Todibo’s transfer that he needed to make ten starts for West Ham to finalise the deal.
It now seems like a formality for the €40m to be confirmed, although Konstantinos Mavropanos may have something to say about that.
I don’t know if he will succeed at west ham but Jean Clair Todibo is a Rolls Royce of a player. His first touch is amazing, he has amazing balance and a truly athletic physique. He is an exceptional footballer. He had a poor 45 minutes against Bournemouth in the Carabao but that won’t change the fact he is a top quality player.
Todibo will prove to be one of the worst signings West Ham will ever make, him and Fullkrug have seen the Hammers flush 70 million pounds down the toilet. Neither have pace so no idea what Mr Pearl Diver (my ass!) is playing at.
Totally disagree Todibo will double his valuation in two years. I don’t say this lightly but the with all great players the first yard is in their head and once he gets possession he is calm and extraordinarily comfortable on the ball to the extent he has time to lift his head up to pick out a pass. Very talented defender and time will tell which of us is correct but it’s going to be great fun finding out this season.
Well I know whose judgement I prefer to go by…and it ain’t yours!
Well said 👍👍
