Graham Potter named West Ham boss

Just to dot the ‘i’s and cross the ‘t’s, West Ham United’s official announcement of what we have all known for some time now: Graham Potter has been officially unveiled as head coach with a two and a half year contract.

Following on from the  earlier announcement that Julen Lopetegui has been sacked, West Ham has released a formal statement confirming the changeover at London Stadium:”

Graham Potter becomes the eighteenth permanent manager / head coach (along with three caretaker managers) to be at the helm since the club’s founding in 1895.

The new boss gave the usual platitudes when speaking to in-house media team where he spoke of how excited he is to be joining West Ham etc. To be fair to Potter, I’m sure he has turned down other positions before joining the Hammers and hopefully we can all draw a line over what has been a messy few months at the club.

Potter said:

“My conversations with the Chairman and the Board have been very positive and constructive, we share the same values of hard work and high energy to create the solid foundations that can produce success, and we are on the same wavelength in terms of what is needed in the short-term and then how we want to move the Club forward in the medium to long term.

“West Ham United is a huge Club, at the heart of London, with a tremendous fanbase and great support all around the world. I saw the scenes that followed their Europa Conference League victory in 2023 and it was clear that this is a Club with everything in place to become consistently successful, both on and off the pitch.

“The Club have made a lot of good progress in recent years and ensured there are some very strong foundations in place to build on. You don’t win a European trophy by fluke – there has to be a good bedrock at a football club for that to happen, and the challenge now is to take that on and build the next steps, to develop a team and a Club that the supporters can be proud of.”

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970.. 'Football is Life' oh yes. Let it raise your spirit but never darken your mood. Life's too short not to enjoy the journey with our Claret and Blue heroes n' villains.

Should already getting Ward Prowse back before he does anything else. Should never have been put out on loan.

Yes thank you board for acting within the January window and welcome Mr Potter! He has shown interest in the Academy – great! He will bring organisation and harmony as a minimum which is urgently required just now. Huge sigh of relief from me.

    Welcome to West Ham boss.

I don’t think that the issues were with the players, I think it was a general chaos situation so some prospect of a quick noticeable improvement.

Difficult game at Villa would be the same whoever was going there, and we may be too far behind the field with regard to European places. But onwards and upwards…

Delighted with this appointment. I feel we have a quality individual who given the right support will in time get us playing in a way we can be proud of once again. A person who speaks with knowledge and intelligence. Hopefully it will give the kids a greater chance of breaking into the first team as well. Fingers crossed!

Agree with Morty, need to be patient as the fellah has a lot to sort out. Can’t expect too much this season, but hopefully will see a gradual improvement in performance levels and the goals against / shots faced ratio, going down !
Hopefully we’ll get 3/4 in this window even if couple of loans, and start getting rid of the dead wood.
Nice to be able to understand what the bloke is saying, lol !
    Good luck, Graham 👍

Well after watching his first interview have to say it’s so refreshing. Upbeat, you can understand him and he seems have a plan, which is can be said for Loppy. The one thing that stood out for me was that he said he wanted to get to know the academy players, Mark Noble must be well excited as the players must be. A little ray of light for the academy players to get in the senior team. Wow!

Brilliant just what we needed Watch the difference all the Stiedten signings will fly now being successful Ide lay my life on it

  • Morty says:

We were already enduring a season of major upheaval with a fairly long term manager leaving and nine new players joining. Now we have a further manager change, we must stop all this talk of getting back into Europe this year and give the new manager time to implement his ideas. Top half would be an extremely successful 2nd half of the season. Be patient

    Finally!
Now let’s all get behind him, give him time, and lay off the criticism when transformation isn’t instant.
