West Ham has officially announced the loan signing of Spanish international midfielder Carlos Soler. The 27-year-old joins the club as the ninth addition in what has been an exhilarating summer transfer window. Soler arrives from the French champions, Paris Saint-Germain, on a loan deal that extends until the end of this season.

Soler, who has earned 14 caps for Spain, first rose to prominence with Valencia, his hometown club, where he debuted at 19. His rapid development saw him become a key player, helping Valencia secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League on two occasions.

The transfer faced uncertainty in recent days, with the Hammers needing to offload several fringe players to finalise the deal. Despite late interest from competing clubs, Soler remained steadfast in his desire to join West Ham.

Upon completing his move, Soler expressed his excitement about the opportunity to play in the Premier League and settle in London with West Ham. He remarked, “I’m thrilled to be here as a West Ham player. Playing in the Premier League has always been a dream of mine, and to do so with a club like West Ham, in a city like London, is an incredible feeling.

“I can’t wait to experience the support of the fans, who I’ve heard so much about, especially from my friend Pablo Fornals. I’m looking forward to meeting my new teammates and giving my all for this club in the world’s best league.”

A lot of deal sheets went in late Gonzo 9 according to BBC we know 1 of them is Borja, 1 likely to be Sterling, with our interest in the two Chelsea boys any idea whether those are ours ? I would also imagine Max Cornet is one of the deal sheets supposedly there was some red tape holding up the move, so maybe he forgot some paperwork or admin…

With the window and Zouma plus Aguerd going maybe this means Kasey might get some time on the bench because we are awful light in defence, I guess Alvarez can also slot in being a former CB.

With JWP likely going next season and with contracts up for Ings, Cresswell & Antonio, there will only be 4 players left counted as English (5 if Irvine counts – not sure on that one).

So quite a few players to replace but also they will have to be English or counted as English from time at an Academy.

On a side note, I see both Gallagher and Bellingham both went to Spain under an Irish passport and therefore not subject to the caps in place there. Funny how you can play for England but sign as a player under another passport.

Loan with obligation or option? Mixed reports flying about , I hope it’s obligated to buy, wouldn’t want to see him hit the ground running only to watch him go elsewhere

Two concerns. 100 million net spend when so many other clubs are showing a profit. Down to three defenders when we’ve always had four. Let’s hope we have no defender injuries.

Bloody hell we’ve signed Roy Kent from Richmond (Ted Lasso fan sorry!)

  • B says:

Is he fit? Hasn’t played much football for two years has he?

  • Kevin Perlmutter says:

What happened to the option to buy Soler at the end of the season? That mean, if he turns out well, one of the big clubs can come in and grab him, and there’s nothing West Ham can do.

  • Winchester Hammer says:

Can we get some clarity on the apparent lack of an option to buy and why?

  • John Lattimore says:

We may have completed what you call “an incredible transfer window” but where’s the marquee striker we need? Fulkrug certainly isn’t it. I thought it was a top priority.
