Paco Jémez Appointed as West Ham Backroom Shake-Up Begins

Well, it’s official — West Ham United have finally unveiled some much-needed reinforcements for Nuno Espírito Santo’s backroom staff.

After weeks of speculation and silence, Paco Jémez has been confirmed as a First Team Coach. Quite why it’s taken this long is anyone’s guess. Some suggest the board have been slow to release funds, while others whisper that Nuno’s messy exit from Nottingham Forest left him with fewer trusted lieutenants.

Either way, reinforcements have now arrived — and it’s about time.

La Liga Experience Lands in East London

Jémez brings over 500 matches of managerial experience to the London Stadium. A former Spain international centre-back capped 21 times, he enjoyed spells with Deportivo La Coruña and Zaragoza, winning the Spanish Cup in 2001 — and even played alongside Nuno back in the day.

As a coach, Jémez is best known for his five-year spell at Rayo Vallecano, where he led the Madrid club to a record eighth-place La Liga finish. He’s also managed in Mexico and Iran, and his appointment feels like a significant step towards giving Nuno the backing he’s desperately needed.

Subject to a work permit, Jémez will join a support team that includes Mark Robson, Steve Potts, Gerard Prenderville, and goalkeeper coaches Rui Barbosa and Billy Lepine.

Whether this new addition sparks a turnaround on the pitch remains to be seen — but West Ham fans will be hoping it’s the first of several sensible moves behind the scenes. For a club crying out for structure and stability, it’s a start.

Now, how about a few more signings to help the players on the pitch?

Could still do with Kevin Nolan and Stuart Pearce to drive some purpose and pragmatism to our play. Guy Fawkes bringing a few rockets might also be an assistance.

The 2020-2021 season began horribly with a home loss to a Newcastle team featuring Andy Carroll then a loss at Arsenal

Then Moyes got Covid and Alan Irvine inspired us to wins over Wolves and Leicester and we never looked back – so maybe Jemez can play teh Alan Irvine role?
