It’s official!
Harrison Ashby has left the club for Newcastle as ClaretandHugh explained he would be two or three months ago.
Having picked up £3 million for him from the dubious cash reserves of the Saudi Arabian owned Magpies is not good news on any front – either from a footballing point of view or morally.
But at the end of the day it means that a very good young prospect meant enough to Newcastle to ensure that they were ready to pay more for him than they would probably have got at a tribunal.
Most who have seen him will agree he looks a top right back – a position in which we are struggling although Ben Johnson looked decent against Derby County last night
In confirming the lad’s departure on the official site the Hammers declare that he progressed through the Academy of Football and made his first-team debut in September 2020 at 18-years-old, featuring in a 3-0 Carabao Cup second-round win over Charlton Athletic.
Ashby would make seven first-team appearances in all competitions for the Hammers; three in the Carabao Cup, three in European competitions, and one in the Premier League.
We do whilst expressing our sadness that he wasn’t given a bigger shot at things with the Hammers.
