Jack Wilshere is targeting a return to match fitness by playing with West Ham’s Under 23 side.
The Premier League 2 team are at the top of Division 2 above Manchester United as they seek promotion to division 1.
The Hammers youngsters have five fixtures remaining taking them up to the 3rd May.
David Moyes confirmed that Wilshere has resumed training on grass following his hernia operation but is still not training every day.
Wilshere will build up his match fitness by starting playing short substitute periods for the development squad but with only ten Premier League games remaining a full return to the first team may prove a step too far for this season for the 28-year-old who still has 15 months remaining on his contract.
Wilshere has made 16 appearances for the Hammers first team in two seasons after joining on a free transfer after leaving Arsenal.
His current groin injury has kept him out since 23rd October for a total of 136 days and 22 West Ham games and he had yet another operation in late January. Before that, he was out for 127 days between December 2018 and April 2019 missing 2o West Ham games after undergoing ankle surgery.
Wilshere was signed by Manuel Pellegrini in July 2018 on a three-year contract said to be worth £100,000 per week,.
He first became injured in September 2018 missing 77 days and 11 West Hames games with an ankle injury only returning in November 2018 for a short spell before getting injured again.
Interested in the article but not keen on the headline. Should we not be moving forward ? These young men are the future. A wee bit dated surely
