Jarrod Bowen “unlikely to request West Ham Transfer” as relegation threat looms

Reports indicate that Jarrod Bowen could remain at West Ham even if the club drops into the Championship, a huge lift for supporters and the club as a whole. Despite firm interest from Liverpool, Manchester United, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Everton, the Hammers’ skipper is said to be settled and happy in London.

Clubs target Bowen

Tottenham Hotspur are well aware of that last fact and have made enquiries in each of the last two summer windows, but West Ham have rejected their advances every time. Bowen’s father‑in‑law, Danny Dyer, has long joked and half‑warned that he’d be devastated if Bowen ever considered joining their North London rivals.

With a potential squad exodus looming and uncertainty surrounding Nuno Espírito Santo, West Ham are expected to fight hard to keep hold of their talisman.

Bowen is unlikely to request a transfer and is tied to the club until 2030 and is among the highest earners, yet he would be impacted by a 50% wage cut if the club were relegated. He has been our top scorer for four of the last five years, and the board know there will be a backlash, should they sell him.

Less than £60m and England Complication

Prospective suitors believe they would be able to lure him away for bids below £60m and with spiralling debts regardless of Premier League football, speculation has increased about his future. Yet, there are other players the club will look to offload before even considering offers for their fan’s favourite.

Now 29, he remains on the fringes of Thomas Tuchel’s England plans for the World Cup a status that could be jeopardised by a season in the second tier.

Former manager David Moyes, a long‑time admirer, is keen to lure him to Merseyside. But such a move would be a major upheaval for Bowen and his family and potentially one season in the Championship may ultimately be a smaller sacrifice than uprooting his entire life in Essex.

For now the focus is simple: the next two games and Premier League survival.

I have been a season ticket holder since the late eighties, so experienced the highs and lows of being a West Ham supporter. I previously wrote for OLAS and have contributed to a number of football publications in the past.

It would be lovely to see him stay. He’s loaded already, so I daresay could cope with one season on half wages if it meant he could drive the charge back into the EPL, having captained the team that was relegated. I’m sure that would play on his mind too – he’s the kind of honest, genuine guy who would want to right that wrong, rather than just scurry away like most players who only chase the money (Nuno included).

Aside from that, I can’t see how us being relegated, nor playing in the Championship next season would have on his world cup chances though, given that it’ll be over before next season begins…?

Honestly, even if we do get relegated, I don’t really see what he could gain by going elsewhere. Like he turns 30 just north of 6 months away and he’s clearly at a team which feels like home for him. (Particularly with his wife and FIL)

If he goes to the World Cup with England this summer and gets any game time then he’s represented his country on on the largest stages with the Euros/WC.

If he was maybe 5/6 years younger he could have aspirations of being a first-team starter for England if he left but, as it is, he’s got himself settled so moving his family could be a hassle.

It’s no surprise to me that Bowen will stay at West Ham if we get relegated. I said a few weeks ago when Bowen was being hunted, no chance

No certainty whu are going down.
Would be great if Sullivan (maybe associated with whu) and players wavered money cut (wages).
Stay as a team in championship and give support to returning to premiership.
Completely agree very unlikely as Cash is King that rules.
Chelsea may not be playing well but their desire to give Spurs a push over the edge could help.
Newcastle experimenting with Antony Gordon (top scorer) by not playing him due to possible move.
Is Traore injured or just an excuse not to play him.
Nuno needs to sort his subs out and stop putting Killman on bench

I have seen several references (should we be relegated) to “one season in the Championship”.
I wish I were that confident. Look what happened to Leicester!
If we do go down it is clear that we will lose many of our best players. Even If that brings in significant funds can we trust the Board to spend it wisely?
The Championship is not an easy touch.

We are apparently looking to secure the services of a Director of Football from Germany.

The guy has experience of improving lower league clubs in Germany. He may be able to help us out of League One in a couple of years’ time. Only if he gets everything his own way and is in place this summer.

      Ever hopeful John.
