Reports linking Jarrod Bowen to Aston Villa seem “speculative” at best. With the media frustrated by the lack of movement regarding Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville they have now moved on to West Ham’s captain, but the facts don’t support the narrative.

Bowen will still be on £140k a week salary in the Championship, has four years remaining of his contract, is settled and has not asked the club for a move away. The club have asked him to remain and all indications suggest that he is happy to do just that.

Aston Villa rumours don’t bear closer scrutiny: Here’s why

Villa may fancy the idea of an immediate transfer or a loan‑to‑buy deal, but the reality is far more complicated. They would need to exceed his current wages and match his long contract, all while navigating their 70% SCR cap, which already restricts their spending due to Champions League qualification. With a squad wage bill estimated at £123m, they would need to move players out before even contemplating a serious offer.

No sign of a wholesale clearcut at London Stadium – but it is still very early days

It was widely thought that there would be a major fire sale by West Ham following their relegation, yet to date there have been no major departures, though it is expected transfer activity will increase after the World Cup.

The lack of activity may fuel speculation but in reality the sense of calm that has – apparently – descended upon London Stadium makes a refreshing change from the endless ‘everybody is up for sale‘ briefing of recent windows.
