Exclusive: Jarvis ‘bait’ may not snare flier Antonio

antonioWest Ham have had a setback in their bid to sign exciting Nottingham Forest winger Michail Antonio.

We reported yesterday that the Nottingham Evening Post was claiming the Irons are ready to offer £5 million plus Matty Jarvis as they seek to lure Antonio to the Boleyn.

But even though Jarvis could be used as bait to land Antonio, the deal may still not happen as the Hammers’ bid is still £2.5m below Forest’s valuation of the player.

The Hammers are desperate to land the winger and are prepared to allow Jarvis to move on loan to the City Ground.

Forest have already turned down £4m from Derby County and West Brom in recent weeks, but have intimated they may consider a deal if the right player-swap arrangement can be brokered. It remains to be seen whether Jarvis is good enough bait!

Antoniohas  scored three goals in three starts and a substitute appearance, following on from last season when he bagged 15 goals in all competitions.

However, ClaretandHugh has learned exclusively that West Ham’s top brass are pulling out all the stops to persuade Jarvis to agree to the move, should Forest be tempted.

The Irons who are keen to add a winger and striker to their mix before Tuesday’s deadline.

We were told: ” The chances of it happening now are quite low. Forest want £7.5m on top and that’s too much in our estimation.”

  1. 3 days to go,Stop tinkering with deals that will not take place and spend some money,
£10 million Mose will be ours in 24 hours he can play against Liverpool,
£7 million Yilick will be ours could play against Liverpool if problem with Sakho
No reason why Adebouya can’t be signed in 24 hours to be available for Liverpool,
Offer Nottingham Nolan or Lee if Jarvis won’t go on loan for the year,
    Or pay the £7 million
We cannot afford to keep Magia with a chance of the deal falling threw

    • Where is all this money supposed to come from Bubs, ? Imho Moses isn’t worth 2.5 mil let alone 10, but if we are prepared to punt that on Moses why not instead spend some of it on Antonio who looks a good player, is also young and very quick with an eye for goal. Yilmaz goal record looks good if he is available for 7m and we aren’t signing Austin then we may as well go for him, hopefully we can get Zaza on loan but the longer that goes on the less likely it seems and we should get Barton on a season long deal with an option for another a year or two before someone else snaps him up. Whatever happens, happens, would be nice to sign a strike option arrive before the weekend that could go straight into the team against Liverpool.

  2. I read yesterday that it was a Loan deal for Jarvis and that West Ham would be paying his wages in full – I suppose Jarvis has to look after his own interests but it is frustrating!

  3. It’s all to late and the deal will be another also ran,
Jarvis could be a better player anyway,
We need Alfitano back or gone,
On Monday we will all be screaming how we have been conned again when young Jack is told to put on his account how we had 101 bids in and no one wanted to do business,
    Now Valencia wants out
We will be stuck with Magia and Nolan
    Time for the lucky charms

  4. I know we might be desperate to offload both of them, but we can’t do it by melting them into a single player. ‘Kevin Jarvis’ indeed!

  5. Everything is ‘too much’ for G&S.Galatasaray wanted about 9m for Yilmaz so we offer 3.5m then wonder why we didnt get him.Its embarressing & frustrating in equal measure. They bang in offers a mile off the actual valuation with no chance of getting players for what they want to pay then they will bs us about trying to buy all these names. They think fans are bloody fools sometimes.

  6. One other thought, if we have Amalfitano sitting doing nothing why not use him as the bait along with a fee for any of the signings, I wish he would sort himself out and get Bilic onside then we would have another wide right goal threat who can actually pass the ball.

  7. Anyone tell me what the FXXX going on wit valencia

    • Yeah he is ****ed off with the medical team, they are probably too busy glueing Carroll back together,no glue left to mend Enner 😉

    • Apparently according to DG he has been given conflicting advice already, according to the later article on this site. I am not sure whether that conflicting advice is by WHU or WHU and some other entity, I think the club don’t want him to have surgery but some other medical party says he needs it, as someone that has had surgery twice I would advise him never to listen to doctors and to trust his own judgement but to avoid surgery even if it means a longer time without playing because in the long term he will be better without it. Too many pro’s in all sports shorten their careers by going under the knife when they don’t really need too, once you have done that you will never be 100% again and the affected area will always be susceptible to breaking down in the future.

  8. Sullivan did amazingly well to get a top drawer playmaker in Payet, but seems dead against bringing in a quality striker to get on the end of Payet’s deliveries. Surely If you’re gonna buy a Payet you then stump up the cash for a quality forward who doesn’t have an injury record. Isn’t there enough TV money that can be chucked at this area of the field where we’ve struggled to find someone consistently fit and proven since ermmm can’t think that far back? Di Canio? Would have said Ashton but obviously got injured.

  9. Payet must be wondering what he’s got into. Valencia is not wrong questioning his treatment.

    • Yeah WestGoalHam, I agree on both fronts, As I commented Valencia’s been out for weeks and He still doesn’t know wha’ts wrong apparently !

  10. Is it just me, or are West Ham transfer windows always ten times more dramatic/frustrating than anybody else’s?

    • No its not just you, but even the Manc’s can’t sign anyone, so I guess its not that simple. Too many ‘cooks’: agents, sell on costs, permits, wages, medicals, living accommodation, it all has to be sorted before you can get a signature.
      However, having said that,
How does everything go through so quick on deadline day?
Answer: In my opinion, the best deals are done on that day with everyone panicking, so we all have to wait patiently I guess
      But, don’t hold your breath.

  11. Jarvis doesn’t fancy Forest – it’s more likely that Forest have seen him play!!

If I had any hair I’d be pulling it out!

  12. I have been a mad WHU fan for over 50 years and a fan of Claret and Hugh for some time now. Based in MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA, It’s hard to keep up to date on matters WHU, this is one of the better sites. Normally I would just catch up on what’s happening and move on. But 2 things need to be said, WE NEED TO STOP NOW!! TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND FIX WHATS HAPPENING. ALL THIS CRAP CHASING SECOND RATE, SECOND HAND USED UP CROCKS, THAT AINT WORTH SHIITE IS ONLY GUNNA LEAVE US WITH MORE USELESS BAGGAGE ON OUR PAYROLL. WAKE UP!! PULL OUT THE CHEQUE BOOK AND DO WHAT WE HAVE TO DO. WE ARE WEST HAM THE MIGHTY HAMMERS AND IF WE EVER WANT TO RECAPTURE OUR GLORY DAYS WE NEED TO TOSS THE SHIITE OUT AND STOP BUYING SHIITE WASHED UP PLAYERS THAT AINT WORTH DOG SHIITE BUT WE SEEM TO PAY WELL OVER TOTE ODDS FOR. BLOODY HELL IT AINT THAT HARD TO WORK OUT. IF OUR AFL CLUBS WERE RUN LIKE THIS ALL HELL WOULD BREAK LOOSE. YET WE LONG SUFFERING HAMMERS FANS ACCEPT IT AND GET ALL EXCITED OVER ONE WIN, WE SHOOT OUR BOLT WITH JOY AND THEN WHAT JUST LIKE MY MISSUS THE BOYS SHUT UP SHOP AND THE JOY TURNS TO MISERY. FAAAAAAARK ITS BACK TO CLOSING MY EYES AND DREAMING AGAIN.

  13. Maybe the management should come to Melbourne and check out some of our talent. Even an ageing Archie Thompson a brilliant impact sub last season who just gets on with his job of scoring GOALS, would be better than some of the dead wood in the changing rooms. And FAAAAAAARK ME are we really that blind that we can’t see Joey Barton let off the leash on the middle won’t help us. BUGGER ME it ain’t about who likes or says what it’s what we effen well need, a mean crazy son of a ***** in the guts stirring up other teams. Especially on a pay as u go basis. Yes we have talent there but it’s not ready now and we need it now. GRAB THAT CANTANKEROUS SOD AND THROW HIM IN. WE CANT DO ANY WORSE CAN WE NOW??

  14. Valencia has posted a reply to the erroneous newspaper rep[orts doing the rounds.
I t was probably put about by his Agent but Valencia is quite fine with all that the Hammers medical team are doing for him.

Read his statement on our Official Site. COYI

  15. Obsessed with Olymppc Stadium ;; West Ham have seriously lost thier way in the true world of Premiership Football . The question should be asked ; why we can’t secure a signing and why nobody want’s to entertain West Ham as a long term playing career ..
The future looks bleak for any player who want’s to advance his career at West Ham .
Too much talk of supplementing players that are on the road to recovery instead of supporting them for the future . It should be NO Surprise if players refuse or show little will to join us at Upton Park ..
The Two David’s are isolating us from success whilst thier short term ideals are far short of our our immediate future …. They are creating a feeling of mistrust . We probably won’t even try to put a team out to win neither the Carltion Cup or the FA cup .
LOAN PLAYERS AND HAS BEENS ,, Just why Nolan has not been farmed out is testament to BILIC following Alardyce . Saymo saymo .., WTF .
We , as supporters are willing to wait the long wait for success , but Mrss Sullivan &!Gold are pushing too hard for Manchester , Chelsea , City , Aston Villa , Arsenal , Spurs & Liverpool status . We are a Small club in comparison , and should realise our position as such instead of trying to force things . All because of the Olympic Stadium .. It seems like they are trying to build us up into a SALEABLE ITEM for the Obvious proximous .. America .

  16. The money comes from The 2 Daves Fan 32 same as the money comes from all the owners of the clubs,
If you open your mouth and tell the listening world that we are going to challenge the top 6 teams you put your money where your mouth is,
With are new stadium just over the horizon the owners will be sitting on a fortune but only if they put there hand in their pocket now,
It’s called and investment,if we end up in the bottom half of the league at Xmas they will have to spend big then,
Give Slav a chance all the other candidates for the managers job said we needed to spend £50 million to be a top 8 team we need to spend that other £25 million
That’s life 32 but the minority out their want to see Slav fail and will be hoping we spend nada

    • Bub’s, I agree although not necessarily with your figures, If we had invested in a 20 goal a season striker (Austin) and got a holding midfielder preferrably that can pass (Song or some other, I would have liked to see us sign Kante that Leicester have now bought) we could challenge for the top six as I don’t rate any of the teams other than Chelsea or City, looks like the Dave’s aren’t going to do that and when I made the quote Valencia was fit and Sakho wasn’t up on a charge of witness intimidation and Carrol was coming back early not to mention Amalfitano. According to Sullivan the reason we haven’t gone for Austin, apart from his suspected (rightly or wrongly) injury issues is down to FFP not a lack of funds in their personal coffers, as we don’t know the exact details we have to take their word for it until we find out otherwise. We need a striker probably two for sure but if we don’t get them it is not going to be the end of the World, it may not look like it but we are making progress, certainly in the attacking third, the defending will take care of itself with enough work, at Leicester we should have had a penalty that could have changed the game and against Bournemouth we defended completely inadequately giving them 3 goals but we scored 3 one of which was with 10 men so we have to keep things in perspective and not get caught up in the sensationalist drivel that comes from the press. We have 3 points from 3 games and in a worse case scenario if we averaged that for the rest of the season we would probably still stay up based on the last few seasons.

  17. I hope that’s not the case Bubs, I certainly don’t want to see him fail, I hope He becomes a Legend. (and He probably will given time.)

  18. I hope that’s not the case Bubs, I certainly don’t want to see him fail, I hope He becomes a Legend. (and He probably will given time.)

  19. We are competing with Derby and west brom for this player? A young English player that cheap? Normally talented young English players would cost an arm and a leg. So What’s the catch? Don’t know much about him apart from the fact he is a really fast runner. If he’s that good though how come it is only championship teams that are after him. Apart from us that is.

  20. Well West Brom are a premiership team aint they 😉

  21. It’s more smoke to keep us from looking to close to other bids like Moses that is now dead,
It’s looking more likely that a certain man training with us at the moment will get another 1 year contract,
Let’s hope I am so wrong,
    Welcome Carlton

  22. 4.5m for Antonio, decent player actually,in the championship.Cant really see him being any answer to our prayers in the Prem.Seems the best we can hope for though 😉

  23. Hello hammers. Longtime Forest fan here to give you some perspective on Michail Antonio and the deal.

Firstly, Antonio is good. Seriously good. He got something like 15 goals and 14 assists last year in a struggling side. 15 from midfield. From a fans perspective Andre gray only got 2 more goals as a striker and had 2 championship clubs willing to pay £8m for him.

Secondly though, Forests owner has serious money. Hes one of the wealthiest people in Kuwait, with a refrigeration business (yes, that means we are owned by a fridge magnate)
Hes happy to put money in but our losses are likely around £20m this year against a financial fair play maximum loss of £6m.

So, we are under an embargo, and whatever fee you offer wont change that. Any payment will not affect our position the year after as it is measured on current year not history.
Under the embargo we can only sign players on a free and with wages up to £10k per week

So, from forests perspective this is like a straight swap between a player we have on a long contract, for a player you – and we. Think is less good, for a 1 year loan after which we cant pay his wage levels to keep him nor sign anyone.of similar quality given the £10k per week limit.

Antonio is.a great player and given the restrictions we are under limit our chances of promotion this year I wouldnt stand in his way for a fee that matches his talents. But the embargo means it is hard to imagine any deal that wouldnt weaken our club. If only we.had been let off our FFP sanctions like your big spending pals down at Loftus.Road who were much the worse offenders.

Hope that gives you some useful background

    • Nice one Red, (how do you feel about becoming a Hammer ?), some real interest in you comments.

      • Ha. Think Im too far gone to he anything.other than a ttickie. But.i wish.you guys well. Both our clubs have a proud history.of actually passing the ball aroubd the deck. Hope Slaven revives your style of play. If you could just see fit to poach a few if Derby’s players perhaps….

        • Thanks for your input on Antonio Husky.Nice to have a guy from another club come on here with some decent info for us.We only usually get one Evertonian on here who appears for the sole purpose of calling us Slimey Cockney C*nts, haha,so a pleasant informative comment is appreciated.Cheers!

  24. Yep,cheers fella,as i said i have watched him quite a few times in the championship, always looked good, just didnt know if he could step up to the Prem.Obviously you think he can & you should know 😉 QPR got away with murder, dont know how they did it!

  25. I would give Jarvis a piggy back up there to be honest. But maybe i am being mean, just never been a big fan of him 😉

  26. I think Jarvis, like Maiga, has had enough chances to prove they can achieve at Premiership level and frankly they can’t. I have reservation about Lee, I think KN is now way past his sell by date and JOB is not an asset. It looks like Amalfitano has had his chance too. So there are ‘6’ players who I would be trying to offload. Problem is who wants them ?……….. exactly !.
