There’s not many who would have even given odds that Carl Jenkinsin would be left on the bench for today’s game.
But Slav has chosen to call up veteran James Collins to partner Angelo Ogbonna at central defence in Winston Reid’s absense, leaving James Tomkins to fill the right back spot.
It shows how far out of favour the Arsenal loanee has fallen in recent weeks after signing a new season long deal which saw the club pay Arsenal a £1.5 million in loan fee and foot £40k a week wages.
The player has made a less than average start to his second season at the Boleyn but it’s something of a shock to see the manager play Tomkins out of position rather than recall him to his natural central defensive role.
It will clearly be a major worry for the player and is a poke in the eye to Gunners manager Arsene Wenger, whom we have reported has put a £15 million price on the player’s head should a club want to sign him permanently.
Christ Johnboy I agree with you!! Jenks is worth no more than 2 mil as a back up. He is good going forward but a liability defensively. Tonks is far more solid and I would be happy seeing him playing there for the rest of the season. But we need a quality rb.
That makes Tomks a £30 million player if Wenger wants him
Jenks is at best a backup right back for any top 8 team,
No need to change our defence now for the rest of the season let Reid back in when fit,
We have dodged a bullit by Wenger playing silly nuggets,
Great result for Hippo again poor poor Sunderland fans
Why so shocked ?
Ginge had to be the man drafted in as tanks has made it his position on merit !!!
15 mil ???????
15 quid and a wine gum more like it !!!
Send him back if possible and buy the lad from Burnley !!!!!!
That means tanks is worth 25 mil ?? Dun it !!!!!
Also we haven’t lost or conceded many goals when tanks has played there!! In fact it might only be one goal conceded ??
