Whilst waiting for this story to get corroboration from within the club, it is worth confirming that sources claim now a £57 million bid has been made for Jhon Duran, West Ham’s fantasy striker target who was missed in the summer. Reported by David Ornstein the bid is a huge increase on figures already rejected by Aston Villa last Summer and earlier this month.
Reports claim though, that Aston Villa have knocked back the bid for their 21 year old Columbian striker and have ‘no intention’ of letting him leave the club. Duran has, for months been West Ham’s biggest single regret and ‘near miss’ of recent windows: Reputedly the club could have signed the front man for £40 million had they not dragged their feet in August.
So near and yet so far – the mood music coming out of Aston Villa is not optimistic for The Hammers but where there is life, there is hope: And remember the Max Kilman negotiations last summer when three consecutive bids were refused before a deal was struck.
Never say never – we know how much the player wants a move and that should not be underestimated. He badly wants to be the ‘top man’ at a club and at present is getting very little game time in the Midlands. A move to PSG has been mooted for the Columbian who would simply swap Paris for Birmingham – enticing – but still wouldn’t make him the first choice striker. probably either further down the pecking order. At West Ham, Duran could be the successor to Michail Antonio and genuine first choice number 9. And an East London hero to boot.
No question that the Hammers are in dire need – and what a statement of support for new boss Graham Potter a marquee signing like this would be. A whole other story is how this deal would actually be financed- watch this space as it will either disappear without trace in the next few days along with all the other ‘January rumours’ or accelerate towards fruition.
He just signed a new deal at Villa until 2030 or something. Can’t see it happening. Unless the manager wants him out because he’s a bad apple. Which is possible.
Why have you wasted your time on this article, when the bid has already been rejected by Villa? The valuation is in excess of 70-80m so this offer falls way short, yet again. Duran also does not have any a move, hence why he’s just signed a 5 year deal! 😂😂 your journalism is so lazy, but also delusional. Duran is probably the most sought after striker in Europe and yet you somehow think he’d be tempted to join your sinking ship? 😂🤦🏻♂️
It’s not happening. Durán’s happy at Villa and they’re comfortable asking for £100m. He’s not going anywhere for a while unless something seismic happens.
Sullivan has brought in over 50 strikers since taking over this club and you’d be lucky to name 5 good ones.
His knowledge of Football and players is so poor that any good board of directors would force him out, majority shareholder or not.
He likes to spin stories, keeps us all talking about it, like he did when he owned the Daily Sport. He does love his spin and it gets him a mention.
Oh don’t forget, whatever gets spent in this window will mean hardly anything will be spent in the summer.
We have a lot of aged players who will need replacing. Potter better start looking to the academy because we will not have a good summer window.
“We tried” being copied and pasted every January when Sully butts in. Same old story. SULLY OUT
The difference for me in pushing the boat out for a striker like Duran is he is pretty much guaranteed to be a success compared to the gamble of bringing in a foreign striker who we are not quite sure if they can do it in the premier league.
Duran in negotiations with PSG. Villa won’t sell for less than 70 million in my opinion. Once again we won’t have offered enough to get it over the line. Six months ago it was the difference between 35 and 40 million. Fair enough he was unproven. No he’s proven and he’s the difference between 56 and 70 million. Once again we won’t get him.
I don’t get all the negativity. Of course Sully made a mistake in not bidding 40m in the summer but if we have now offered 57m at least it shows he recognises that. Maybe there is a deal to be done for 60 plus.
I also don’t understand all these call for other positions to be strengthened. We won’t know what else we might need until we have a properly organised team
When it gets rejected I just wish to make it simple , ask them is there a way a deal can be done at all ?
.if they say they are definitely not selling in this window. We can then move on ..rather than the back and forth…money talks and if you offered 80/90 million then they woukd sell
.butcwe haven’t got that and he’s not worth that so again move on straight away
At last some really positive news. Villa recently extended his contract to 2030 but interesting to see how Duran will react as he wants to be the main striker and Ollie Watkins getting more games. Has to be good news that far from being restricted to loan signings the board are clearly determined to back Graham with a huge bid knowing other positions also need to be filled.
Could we bid for David or Delap after all if the Duran offer is rejected? Love to see Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall or Carney Chukwuemeka in midfield plus the best from our Academy to really improve our side.
I challenge anyone to find where Villa said Duran was for sale at any point. The only places that made such claims were the click-bait sites like this one has become. Villa rejected multiple offers in the summer. If they had wanted to sell him they would have. They knew the talent they have. He isn’t going anywhere other than a big club with a huge bid. What Duran might want doesn’t matter when Villa are looking at BIG money. Non story as usual.
Sorry, but so much rubbish in press about West Ham atm. Supposed bids for Duran and Wahi and Potter demanding we sign David and Gomes and now Dembele on offer. Plus I’ve lost count of the other strikers linked with us in last week. Now we want a centre back and either have significant money to spend or just loans.
How much is true is anyone’s guess but I somehow think very little. It’s all Sullivan bs for the press. He fiddles while West Ham burns.
Another phantom bid from Sullivan. 😴😴
West Ham are listed as being somewhere around the 16th richest club in the world. As things stand, that seems to be about the only metric where we are up with the elite. Despite spending an enormous amount of money last summer (nobody seems to know exactly how much because every estimate quoted is different) they have the oldest squad and the ability of some of those newer recruits is questionable, which makes me wonder if those responsible for recruitment are as knowledgeable as they claim, or if their modern methods of identifying talent are not as accurate as suggested. Why is every other top team’s “Academy” producing PL players between the ages of 16 and 21, but apparently we can’t develop anyone under 22 to that level? We claim to need a £20m speedy, fit 24-26 year old for a given position and then announce that we are looking at a £30m 29 year old with an ongoing injury. When the right target does come along, he is not recognized as such by our “experts” and we quibble over £5m on the asking price.
Smoke and mirrors Sullivan would never bid this just a fake bit of news to look like we are trying to get someone never happening
Sounds like Villa have rejected. I can’t see them doing business with Sullivan considering hiw he wouldn’t budge in the summer and his earlier derisory bids.
If we really have that amount to offer then we could be considering using it to fill more than one position.
Duran is the one that got away due to the insulting business that Sullivan conducts. Wouldn’t be the first time.
While it’s promising to see the club may be willing to spend big, this ship set sail in the summer. As much as I’d love to see him join and would no doubt be electric, a fresh contract and Villa not wanting to sell this is essentially a wasted bid even if he tries to force a move. He’s been scoring in the CL, shouldn’t have mucked about and paid on deadline day. Better use of time and money bidding for players that are available, Guessand etc. Two weeks left and things are only getting worse with a setback for Todibo…
Where did the money appear from as I thought we Looking for cheap loan deals and players that nobody wants ,seems like one of Sullys bulls*** statements again
This is an embarrassment.
About £40M in the Summer and he was ours, but oh no, not prepared to pay that much go and get Fullkrug as a cheaper option that turned out anything but. An appalling decision.
Now reputedly we’ve just offered £57M when talk has been of him being North of £70M now more likely not for sale at all this window.
Are we supposed to be impressed by a bid that anyone could have predicted would fail ?
We’re a Mickey Mouse embarrassment we really are, I wouldn’t have the front to make such a bid after the fiasco in the Summer.
Fingers crossed it’s not a ” we tried ” moment like plenty of times before.
John’s correct, utterly embarrassing here we go, Lingard saga all over again, every window but now it’s going to be Duran. Doesn’t Sullivan have any self respect or common sense, the value’s gone anything over £40m is laughable and we need to look elsewhere, move on.
Sadly it won’t happen; however, it is promising that we have funds available should an alternative striker target be sourced in the £40 – £60m price range. We also need reinforcements in other areas. That we have £57m available has to be a positive.
Totally agree Jay. I understand some of the negativity especially with our history . But surely if we are bifding £57 million for a top player who would guarantee goals rather than some of the strikers we are linked with, has to be a positive. I can’t imagine that Graham would have accepted the job if he hadn’t been given guarantees of a decent transfer budget from the board.
Great bid ..but apparently like you say they don’t want to sell now …it will get rejected…
Maybe the player can do something
