Joint chairman release statement

A statement on West Ham’s progress over the last 12 months claimed to be written by David Sullivan and David Gold has been published on WHUFC.com

“Reflecting on the past 12 months, the overwhelming sentiment is one of positive progress made across all areas of the Club,” the Joint-Chairmen wrote on WHUFC.com. “This time last year, we made a strategic decision to invest significantly in the football operation, appointing a world-class manager and backing him with the largest transfer budget in our history, the first step in a long-term plan that remains on schedule and heading in the right direction.

“Manuel Pellegrini and his players have produced some magical moments, marvellous performances and memorable victories – most recently in a certain part of north London! – and, above all, have created a spirit and identity that we believe all Hammers fans have genuine faith in. There is great anticipation and excitement about what lies in store for next season, and everyone is looking forward to the challenge of further improving our Premier League position.

“It has also been another hugely successful year for our Academy, too, with the likes of Grady Diangana, Joe Powell, Conor Coventry and Ben Johnson all graduating to first team honours, following in the exceptionally talented footsteps of our latest full England international, Declan Rice.

“Last month it was our honour and privilege to officially open the brand- new Academy facility at the iconic Chadwell Heath training ground and there can be no doubt that the redevelopment will give us even greater opportunities to identify, develop and nurture the best young players in the country.

All that remains is to once again say a huge thank you for your outstanding loyalty and support –throughout the campaign. We look forward to welcoming you back to London Stadium in August!”

Claret and Hugh Opinion:

The sentiments are well meant and will most likely be well received by many West Ham supporters but this statement has obviously been written for them by a member of the West Ham marketing department with the obligatory renew your season ticket now article embedded in the middle of the club website article. I am sure the Chairmen signed off on the messaging contained within the statement. The key words for me in this 267-word statement is the realisation that this is the first step in a long-term plan which remains on schedule and heading in the right direction. We all realise that employing the right manager and investing in the team last summer is a good start but we must continue investing in the team this summer and beyond by backing the manager if we are to succeed in pushing for a European place this coming season.

  1. And to reward the outstanding loyal supporters with a 10% price increase to your season ticket 👍

  2. Agree Sean, this summer we will be seeing the second step from the chairman and speaking personally I want to see that they have learned from previous mistakes that you have to continue to invest for a number of seasons if you want to reach the famed next level. The soundbites so far about £30m plus sales doesn’t inspire me with confidence truth be told. Let’s see after the season ticket renewal date closes who our targets are.

  3. It’s easy to name a few positives but the club can’t improve if you sweep all the negative and awful moments o f which there wer a lot under the carpet and don’t address them ..sorry but that statement is about as personal as it gets is it ??? Finished well this season which is great but there forgetting N awful lot of things ..it was an ok season but progress I’m not so sure …IMO
Oh and how long are they allowed to use ,we spent 100mil line , 😂😂maybe we should all write thank you letters😂😂😂
