Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he was close to joining West Ham United as manager before taking over at Liverpool. The German tactician’s revelation has sparked discussions among fans about what could have been for the Hammers.
Klopp admitted that there was strong interest from West Ham United before he joined Liverpool. However, the timing wasn’t right for either party at the time.
If Klopp had joined West Ham, he would have managed the club during a period of significant transformation. The Hammers have experienced significant success in recent years, including European qualification and cup competitions.
Klopp’s managerial expertise and charisma could have further elevated West Ham United. His ability to develop players and implement a winning mentality could have taken the club to new heights.
While Klopp ultimately chose Liverpool, his near-move to West Ham United is a fascinating piece of football history. The Hammers can be proud of their achievements under David Moyes , but it’s impossible not to wonder what could have been if Klopp had taken charge.
Remember him turning us down.
How near was it? Seems like he was asked and said no. That’s not really Benitez near!
Hmmm. That’s a gross exaggeration. Klopp was never ‘close’ to becoming our boss. David Sullivan made an enquiry in May 2015 just after Allardyce left and as Klopp was leaving Dortmund but it was too soon for Klopp to take any job. Five months’ sabbatical later he was at Liverpool after they sacked Rodgers.
And If my aunt had b*llocks she’d have been my uncle.
There was NEVER a cat in Hell’s chance of Klopp joining West Ham!
Who in their right minds thinks he would even consider joining West Ham, especially considering our highly dodgy owner?!! If Pep hadn’t been available, he was next on the list for Bayern.
He coached a perennially underperforming big club Dortmund to winning the Bundesliga twice knocking the Mighty Bayern Munich off their perch, reaching and narrowly failing to win the Champions League against Bayern. Yes, his last season was disappointing, but BVB are not an easy club to work for, especially at that time.
His next step was upwards, not downwards to work under our undesirable owners! He would’ve had knowledge of them and steered well clear.
We could’ve asked Pep to manage us in Sullivan’s la la land but that doesn’t mean there was ever a chance he’d consider it.
Some of our fans are delusional to say the least and why has this reared it’s head again after it was reported at the time?
As they say ‘if ifs and ands were pots and pans there’d be no need for tinkers’. We may not have squandered the youth, might have fielded a side against Liverpool in Caraboa cup last season, might have been left with a younger squad, used the substitutes, tried to play some football. It didn’t happen. But we are Moyes free, as free as the wind blows! Enjoy
