Kante Move Could Be a Game-Changer

West Ham’s transfer bid for N’Golo Kanté has certainly caused a stir and divided opinion. Reviewing comments on C&H as well as social media, it appears the sentiment is evenly split on this matter.

Here are the views of one of our regular posters, Joseph, who articulated on C&H this morning that this was a transfer he’d very much like West Ham to pursue:

“Many scoffed at Fulham when they brought Willian back to the Premier League—critics said he was too old, his legs had gone, etc. But you would be hard-pressed to find a better player or professional than him, and Kanté is from the same mould.

The money will not be a concern for him; he has enough already. So for me, the issue that he’s on £550 thousand is not a concern, as he knows he’ll get nothing close to that amount. It will be purely for football reasons. And the other thing—he’s 33, well so what? He showed that he still has the ability to get around the pitch and probably a lot better than Souček or JWP. So again, another argument that, for me, falls down.

And finally, he has no sell-on value—well, boo hoo. The times the club has handicapped itself with players nobody else wanted, bought for silly money and now can’t sell for love nor money (Ings as an example)—well, if this is the case, the club’s eyes will be wide open on this for a change. The money Manchester United wants for McTominay makes this a better deal, though a short-term one at that.”

If his said wages are correct he would have to drop £1m per month.to play for whu.
With only another 3-4 years footballing career no way he is likely to consider that.
Nobody is going to match Saudi money.
    He’s not going anywhere.
Another red herring from the media.

    No

Lost a nother one just pay the money

More than happy if Kante becomes a Hammer, proved he can still play, one of Frances better players at Euros 24.
Made himself available all the time on the pitch.
His enthusiasm on the pitch would rub off on not just the youngsters but the senior one’s too. C.O.Y.I’s

What happened to the red bull project, west ham are becoming a laughing stock ,stillvat 33 he won’t be our oldest player, we get linked to all these young players and buy 2 pensioners, what next noble return …only at west ham..

  • Selsdonhammer says:

Too old and too expensive at £20m. This is typical pre-Steidten West Ham and would appear to have Sullivan’s fingerprints all over it. Please no: I’d prefer to see Freddie Potts in the role until Alvarez returns from injury.

Kante is over the hill unfortunately. He’ll be 34 by Christmas probably. His last years at Chelsea were injury ridden. Just because he’s had six good games in the Euros people think he’s a good option? if he gets injured again playing for us it’s game over end of career probably. On top of that he’s too slow for the premier league now, he showed that in his last year at Chelsea. I thought the idea was not to buy old has been journeyman anymore at West Ham.

Watching kante . During the euros he’s still seriously quick . No loss of pace at all . Obviously the issue is can he do it . Week in and week out . This will be a lopetegui signing if it happens.

Kante is top quality, great all round player. Still fit and wanting to play, well worth the money by todays prices.

  • mark wiggins says:

No , just no what a waste of money at his age !

    • G h says:

He would bring so much experience to our team, even if it is for one season, think how he could help the youngsters and get our defence organised personally I think it would be a great signing but don’t think it will happen due to the fee and wages
But I honestly think it would be a great signing

    N’ Golo Kante
What a terrible idea. At 33 years of age and the transfer fee plus his reported wages makes this a disasterous move. What happened to the new philosophy under Lopetegui of signing young players with potential for the future of the Club?
    Has this been binned?

    Couldn’t disagree more.
The deal is as much, if not more, complicated than the one that feel through for the other guy in January.
First his club don’t want to sell him but the sportwashing regime do and the profits are shared amongst the other teams.
His club fear there’ll be an exodus if he is sold. He’s also liable for taxes as he’s only been there a year.
The biggest problem though is the 20 million they want, which is outrageous. No player that age is worth that much. They are taking the piss out of our owner.
Willian was on a free and had something to prove. Kante doesn’t. Also he hasn’t asked to move and has voiced no desire to join West Ham.
This is all stuff I’ve heard on the radio told by people expert in the Saudi league.
It’s a huge no from me.

  • John Ayris says:

It is obviously not going to happen, he’s on £423K a week at Al ittihad.

Even if he took a 50% pay cut he’d still be above anything we’d be likely to pay.

This is truly silly season stuff.

  • Ian says:

I agree with you entirely. his age. Will be an asset with his huge experience . he would bring the
calming. influence on the pitch. that. Youngsters need. I’ve watched him a lot and know he would be perfect to assist a NEW manager building a new team structure and system . try to remember his contract will relate to. the the. intended team building programme.

  • Andrew says:

More importantly, Will he improve the team? A big fat yes!! Maybe 33 but plays like a 25 year old. Get at least 3 years out of him. Proven in the prem, world class, a no brainer if you ask me. €20 mill is a snip.

  • Westy says:

Great signing. He’s a born winner. Wealth of experience. Will bring a winning mentality and work ethic.

  • Jonathan Waeland says:

Great job deferring to football expert ‘Joseph’ who ‘articulated’ that you’d be hard pressed to find a better footballer than Willian…

  • Benny the Aussie says:

Yeah it’s still a big No and it takes us backwards and sends the wrong message to the dressing room and academy.
We need young and better and a bit of fight and desire.

    • Mark says:

Spot on – all you will get is one season and a lot of expense – this isn’t building for the future

  • MonsterMunchHands says:

Well boo-hoo indeed – maybe “regular poster Joseph” should take his schoolkid logic and get back to playing Football Manager 2018 with the Sullivan boys.
