According to the Sun on Sunday, West Ham’s bid for Senegalese centre half Kara Mbodj has hit a work permit snag. The tabloid claims that although the Hammers are prepared to pay Genk £4m for the defender, the 25 year old can not get a work permit until August.
FA rules mean only players from the top 50 ranked nations are eligible for a work permit. Although Senegal are currently rated 36th in the world by FIFA but outside the top 50 using the FA’s two year average. That will change in a couple of months but West Ham may look elsewhere.
