Keane becomes a Dec fan

Roy Keane described Declan Rice’s performance against Croatia as “excellent” – compliments don’t come much higher.

The Hammer was right back to his absolute best in front of the back four and with Kalvin Phillips was quite outstanding.

For Roy Keane to describe him as excellent given some of the comments he has made about past performances means he had to be at his best.

And I am still personally shocked at the growth in his game Dec has shown since arriving in the Hammers first team dressing room.

We all know of course it need a Hammer or three in an England team for it to win anything  and Declan could hardly be a better example of our club at its best.

Keane was impressed by England’s ‘very good’ performance against Croatia and reserved special praise for Leeds United midfielder Phillips and Dec.

There’s always a danger that he may be doing a talking up job on behalf of Manchester United but we have definite sourced information that the Old Trafford won’t be moving for Dec this summer.

‘There was talk before the game about maybe taking a draw but l thought it was vital they got a win,’ Keane told ITV. ‘I thought it was a very good performance by England.

  1. Totally agree. The bottom line is that Roy Keane is a legend and what he doesn’t know about that position, probably isn’t worth knowing. He can be a harsh and brutal critic at times but you can’t argue with him as he knows his stuff and his assessment of Declan was spot on.
On my first seeing Declan and realisng how young he was, I watched and watched and watched and the more that I saw of him was the more that I became convinced that we had a Very Special Player on our hands. Players like him are very Rare indeed, and he will go on to captain England and become a legend in his own right, without question.

  2. Incredible how often he is there to snuff out danger with timely interventions. His reading of the game is already world class.
