Khan’s LS ‘vanity project’ sparks furious response

Sadiq Khan’s incredible decision to stage major league baseball at the London Stadium – a plan which means moving the west stand – is indeed the the vanity projects of vanity projects.

That was the phrase used by an insider close to the project and quoted in the story run by CandH last night.

The costs involved in shifting the stand – whilst being hard to nail – can probably be estimated at approximately £2 million as it was £4.1m to move north and south stands and seven rows in 2017.

And given the state of the pitch at Wembley last night following the NFL fixture ahead of the Spurs game, you have to fear  for the London Stadium surface if such nefarious events become standard under the current London mayor.

It’s also fair to wonder whether a game which has never been of anything other than the most marginal interest to British sports lovers is really the commercially attractive proposition the

CandH followers on both the website and Facebook Group immediately gave their views of the latest admissions on the situation.
Here are some random views:
O‘Vanity project’ is dead right – dismantling the West Stand for one weekend is laughable – except for the fact that us poor Taxpayers are footing the bill!
O What’s next Horse of the Year Show.American football has ruined the Wembley pitch and now Kahn wants to put on baseball,at enormous cost?

O Well, the next time LLDC/E20 have to explain why they lost X amount of millions for financial year 19/20 should make interesting reading?

O Around £11m to move the west stand for a ‘vanity’ game of rounders, sorry, I mean, Baseball, crazy, crazy!

O Oh well, the popcorn sellers will make a killing and as long as the pitch is (unlike the state of Wembley tonight) put back together in time for real football to start in August let the Mayor have his day I suppose.

O Seems to me that Mayor Kahn is doing everything he can to ruin the pitch for West Ham.Surely the club must have some say in how the pitch is used?

OHe’s plunging LLDC into further debt for the sake of what?Do we really want American sports over here?Next thing you know we’ll have horses jumping over some sort of obstacle.

  1. His a Liverpool supporter doesn’t even support a London club which as mayor surely it’s a must. Otherwise try being Liverpool mayor and to spend more taxpayers money on a stadium that must be sold off then his tenure is very short, and I’m a Labour supporter.
