Cheik Kouyate missed last night’s end of season Players’ awards as he recovered from an operation on his wrist completed on the same day. Kouyate has regularly played on in pain with a wrist bandage over the past two seasons with a pre-existing problem and that wrist injury was aggravated further in his international duty for Senegal in the African cup of nations.
West Ham’s head of medical revealed yesterday that the club took the decision with the player for Cheikhou to undergo an operation on his wrist on Tuesday. He will be in a cast for eight weeks with a view to him returning in good time for next season pre-season training.
West Ham Chairman David Gold tweeted out around midnight “After our victory against Tottenham and our PL status assured, we took the decision for Cheikhou to undergo an operation on his wrist. dg”
Diafra Sakho was another absentee at the awards ceremony on medical grounds with claims that a new back injury prevented him from attending the £330 per head event last night.
