Hammer Cheik Kouyate was awarded the man of the match after Senegal’s 2-0 win over Zimababwe yesterday. Senegal beat Zimbabwe to become the first team to reach the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals.
Liverpool’s Sadio Mane tapped in the opener from close range in the ninth minute, getting on the end of Lazio forward Keita Balde Diao’s low cross. Henri Saivet, on loan at St Etienne from Newcastle, then struck home a 20 yard free-kick four minutes later.
Senegal have a maximum six points from two games in Group B. Tunisia are second with three points and both Algeria and Zimbabwe have a point each.
The 2017 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Gambon runs from 14th January through to the 5th February. The final will be played at Stade d’Angondjé which is a stadium in Angondjé, a suburb of Libreville in Gabon.
Watched this game. He was good but I had to watch it from behind the sofa. Have never seen a game with so many injuries. Players going down all over the show. It was like Hammers vs Hammers reserves! The Big Man seemed to come through it. He was almost literally last man standing. But no chance he will get back to us in one piece!
The good news with the Fonte signing is that our midfield just got stronger as I asssume Kouyate will no longer be considered a CB.
John that’s a great point. Need his energy in midfield, alongside calm Obiang and creative force that is lanzini. Not such good news for Noble…
