West Ham shareholder Daniel Kretinksy is set to invest £155m in a new 35,000 capacity stadium for Sparta Prague where he is the chairman and majority owner.

The new venue will replace the dilapidated Evžen Rošický Stadium in which the Czech Republic football team has played for one hundred and seven years. The club is already buying up land with construction set to begin in 2030 and be completed by 2035.

Sparta currently plays its home matches at the Letná Stadium (also known as the epet ARENA), which has been used since 1917 and houses around 18,300 supporters. The new 35,000 stadium is set to become the largest football stadium in the Czech Republic surpassing the 20,000 capacity Fortuna arena owned by local rivals Slavia Prague in which West Ham were crowned Europa Conference League champions in 2023.

Kretinsky has recently been crowned the richest man in the Czech Republic with a net wealth now estimated at £13 billion.

how naive. for your consolation, this man (whom i already don’t like just because he is a billionaire) pours buckets of cash into our club and doesn’t pretend he knows who is the best football manager – or coach – and best footballers for our club, like a certain used car salesman that we have as chairman. but i’m sure this cash-bag is smart enough to know we need to have a successful football team to have a successful club. do you think the Gold family sit around the telly and religiously watch all our matches with a critical eye?
