Liverpool are, I am sure, doing some succession planning for the day when Mo Salah decides to head out for one huge payday in the Middle East. West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus has long been spoken of as one possible replacement. No doubt, at present, Kudus is disappointed and frustrated everywhere he turns. He’s being played out of position by a coach at West Ham who he clearly doesn’t get on with, and his Ghana Captaincy is under fire across Africa.
In addition to the latest in a series of ‘Kudus to Saudi’ stories I covered earlier, I see an on-line story linking ‘unsettled’ Kudus with a move to Anfield to follow his favourite coach who has just joined the reds.
We know Kudus is frustrated at London Stadium and now Liverpool have appointed the ex-Moyes coach John Heitinga – who was with Kudus in Ajax before West Ham.
The article is somewhat extravagantly titled “EXCLUSIVE: Mohammed Kudus demands agents begin Liverpool talks” – since his brother is his agent we will not really know for sure but what is clear is that Mohammed Kudus was at his most successful under Heitinga:
Anfieldwatch.co.uk quotes Kudus: “I felt very good under Heitinga. He is the best trainer I had at Ajax. Apart from the training, I have a lot of respect for him in terms of standards and values. Personally, I would have loved to work with him longer.”
Sounds like Kudus has a lot on his mind just now. Genuine admiration for a coach or a not-very cryptic plea for a reunion?
