West Ham are understood not to have reignited interest in Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho, despite recent reports to the contrary.

Claret & Hugh have learned this morning that although there were tentative links, our sources insist no fresh contact has been made. Sancho was originally offered to the Hammers last week, with a 48-hour window to make a move—at the time, the deal was dependent on Mohammed Kudus going the other way.

During that brief period, West Ham—led by head of recruitment Kyle Macaulay—contacted Chelsea for feedback on Sancho’s loan spell at Stamford Bridge. Following those discussions, manager Graham Potter decided the player didn’t fit the profile he was looking for. That stance hasn’t changed.

In fact, with Kudus now less likely to join Manchester United and no financial offset on the table, any potential deal for Sancho looks even more unlikely.

Reports that United might tear up Sancho’s £350k-per-week deal also appear far-fetched, given the cost of a full payout. A loan deal—where the hiring club pays a portion of the wages—is more feasible, but as it stands, West Ham are not in negotiations.

What manager would want Sancho knowing how the player has fallen out with previous Manchester United managers. Last thing Potter wants is a player with attitude.

We have other positions to fill that are far more important than another wide player who cuts it in Germany but in the Prem is average at best so it is a big no from me.

I certainly don’t think it would be fair to write off Jadon’s career at this point, and I suspect we might be his level and would offer him a chance to reignite it. But I can’t see the benefit when we have Bowen, Guilherme and Summerville to play those positions, and would rather we focussed on two young, hungry centre forwards who actually want to play for us and see is as an exciting step up.

Good luck to him, but yeah, I fear it might not be a great fit.
