Lampard approached for West Ham job – Insider lifts the lid

The international break is fast becoming the irritating hiatus encountered just as the Premier League is getting interesting. The transfer window closes, three games have taken place, a league table of sorts is starting to assemble and then..’ Halt’ whilst world cup qualifiers -most a foregone conclusion – take centre stage for a weekend.

Frustrating. However the break does give space for air time for stories and rumours that might not have seen the light of day without the breathing space offered by a lack of Premier League football. That could be one of the many reasons that the reports of Frank Lampard being offered the West Ham job should Graham Potter be sacked appear to be still circulating this very weekend.

Could it be true that the board – well known for their cack-handedness with supporter PR – would authorise an approach to former West Ham and Chelsea midfielder who is still public enemy number one with many West Ham supporters and in any case, has not exactly pulled up trees as a moderate level Championship manager?

When asked ‘any truth in the story?’, specifically the footballinsider247.come ‘exclusive’ claiming ‘West Ham make move for Frank Lampard“- Claret and Hugh’s high ranking source inside West Ham was clear:

“Not True”.

So take reassurance. However many crass or wrong decisions taken at West Ham United’s board level in recent weeks, months and years, planning to appoint Frank Lampard as Graham Potter’s successor isn’t,  and has not been one of them.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Lampard has been an awful coach with every club so far , including Coventry where he’s won 20 but lost 12 of his matches . His problem is that he doesn’t know how to defend which is fatal in the Premier League .

  • Brian says:

Sorry don’t understand why we would approach Lampard he hasn’t a good track record apart his experience at getting sacked
If we thinking of approaching him because his an ex hammer then we would be better off appointing Noble and get him a team of young forward thinking coaches

  • Steven Charlwood says:

A mix of comments as expected, Terence Brown sacked his dad and uncle, sold his best mate to Leeds and then left for Chelsea for £11m (how much would that be worth today?) , faults on both sides but I can understand his bitterness and a lot of fans have (including myself given him stick). Where did his transfer money go? I hold no ills toward Frank and he has achieved so much as a player. He has yet to prove himself as a manager though. One thing is for sure when asked to do a turn in Tony Carrs Testimonial he did not need to be asked twice.

    Football Insider should be renamed
‘Overheard on Bus’. It is, at its very best, a forum for second-rate pub chat from ex pros; managers; staff.
Reputable fan sites (I include C and H in this) should  never give it the oxygen of publicity even to dismiss it.
It’s trash. Treat it as such.

  • Luke says:

Straight out the Sullivan playbook this one…leak something terrible and horrific to make you think twice of what you already have

  • AM says:

I don’t think Potter is right for the job BUT after what Lampard said about West Ham a few years ago I wouldn’t want him in to clean the toilets Having said that I went off Lampard when he by passed his father and said in short I’m nobodies junior

  • Skipper says:

Lampard would be a suicidal choice

  • HammerDan says:

The whole Lampard thing is probably just Spuds fans/ reporters creating a wind up.

Im not taking it seriously, its no more than a prank to see if West Ham fans bite. I’m not. Total wind up put out there by some muppets.

Martin, thankfully no news here. I know you put out there what is reported wider, which is appreciated, but I’m going to park this one as a 0% chance of happening.

  • Big Fat Frank says:

In the past, I would have disregarded the rumour immediately. But with the shower of ship we have running/ruining things, and with how much out of touch they are with us fans, I would not be surprised if this rumour did have some substance to it.

  • Slater says:

This is someone being cheeky and on a wind up.
Even Sullivan wouldn’t be this stupid. As much as Potter had not set the place alight yet he’s tactically miles ahead of Lampard tactically in my opinion. It’d be a backward step and the fans wouldn’t have him.

  • Ted says:

Think it was bad how frank was treated by West Ham supporters over the years
And for no valid reason at all
His dad played over 700 games for us
So for that reason alone he should have been treated with a bit more respect

    • Skipper says:

      Respect works both ways

      • Rock Hammer says:

The lack of respect came from WHU fans first. They believing he was in the first team due to family connections. He went on to be a Ballon Dor nominee and proved all the disrespectful supporters wrong.

      • Ted says:

What did he so wrong then ? I’d love to hear a proper explanation

    • Morty says:

A small minority decided he didn’t merit selection and his dad and uncle favoured him. The vast majority of fans didn’t agree and accepted he wanted to leave because Rio was sold without a worthy replacement being found. He endured our wrath when he claimed West Ham was a pub team and that fans cheered when he broke his leg at Villa.
