Former Hammer Frank Lampard feels that David Moyes made a mistake by an attacking set-up against Liverpool yesterday rather than a more defensive-minded starting line-up.
Lampard told TV viewers on BBC Match of the day: “I understand what Moyes is saying, first half they were in the game, but I think they had a problem tactically playing Mario and Lanzini. They are similar players and want the ball to feet. In terms of playing those two at Liverpool, maybe they shouldn’t have done.”
I would rather have seen Antonio and Lanzini. With Antonio it would have been more explosive.
I’m not totally impressed with Mario so far, and he often relieved our pressure on Liverpool by losing the ball. As I said the other day he will need to adjust his game to have a chance of a permanent contract.
Hopefully Antonio’s goal will win him his place next week.
Having said that, I wonder if Antonio’s head has been turned by Chelsea’s interest. He has had injuries, but he has also not been the same Antonio as he was. Hopefully he can be fixed, because I would hate to lose him.
Tend to agree with Lampard on this one. Considering Lanzini have been injured, the two similar players has not been able to train and practice together. The duo might work together – and they might not. Trying this out against a team like Liverpool is risky, that being said I wasnt complaining when I saw the line-ups so this is a fair amount of heinsight…
Antonio could definitely have been an option from start at sleepy fish mentions, also thinking having you Declan sitting in front of the back 3, allowing Noble – and more notably Kouyate – to drive a bit more forward in the middle. That might’ve backfired as well though as we could very easily been caught (more often) on the flank counters by the speed of Mane and Salah… Thoughts?
